Ok World I introduce The Real Limey to you, and just a note I wish my other one would not have been crushed but searched and searched no luck then the Cutlass...............well then a weird string of events brought me back to the Lime Green Malibu ( not a Laguna YET Maybe ) but still lime green here we go

03-03-2011, 05:34 PM

So you got it free I am guessing? Demo derby car?

Why do you assume its a derby car ?? It is not one it will be a resto mod when done. And no it was not free nor for sale

cool...not typical, that's for sure. Glad someone is out there saving and restoring/restifying the of-kilter different stuff.

Know what I'd suggest? Go the route many have gone with camaro's/etc...give this thing an ls or lq powerplant, 4 speed auto, see what you can do brake/suspension wise (not g-machine-esque, but stately/carver...maybe similar capabilities to a crown vic interceptor) and enjoy. Make this an ideal roadtrip/long cruise car that also happens to run 12's while getting 26mpg. THAT would be cool.

03-03-2011, 06:40 PM
It already has plans for a better rear disc brake conversion, its a direct bolt in swap from a Impala SS type of car it bolts right up the only downfall s have to go with the 5 x 5 pattern.
I already have the bigger sway bars for it front and rear the rear is 1 1/2"......... from the factory is only 7/8" and the front will be robbed from a early 70's camaro. Also gonna use the drop spindles from the same year camaro that is also a direct bolt in option for me as well

03-03-2011, 08:45 PM
I like it...Big block and twins!! :headbang

03-03-2011, 09:53 PM
wished I had the funds for that would be nice !!!

03-03-2011, 11:04 PM
So you bought it from Texas right? And had it transported here? If so thats way better than the rust belt finds. It is such a off the wall body style that it works for it.

All told it has alot going for it.

But please cut weld and tuck those bumpers in tight to the body.

03-04-2011, 07:34 AM
currently no motor I assume? The front end in a couple pics looks like its riding high.

03-04-2011, 10:01 AM
your correct I have not installed the 350 olds motor yet, and that will only be there till I get my 400 SB built for it ( its an original 400 SB 350th car ) and yes It was built in Odessa Texas and sold in Dallas and stayed in Abilene with one owner its whole life till now.

03-06-2011, 10:25 AM
That car has potential. Are you going to run an automatic or go with a stick? You should be able to upgrade to rear disc and retain the 4-3/4" pattern. What rear diff is in there?

03-06-2011, 06:12 PM
was chomping at the bit to get these on for a trial fit .......................Not so sure on the scoop as of yet I thought it would go closer to windshield but that can be figured out later I guess and finally seen what it looks like with the prostars I love it........... I have the 8.5 10 bolt and want to get at least posi in there with 3.42 gears with auto on floor

03-28-2011, 10:01 PM
well a little update since my pulled hamstring ( almost ripped it ) is healing up a little now, some progress on the interior and I scored a 2" cowl hood glass bolt on one WOOT WOOT

Is the interior vinyl paint really that glossy? That would be the only thing that jumps out at me...otherwise, it looks like it's coming along nicely!

My neighbor has 3 of these 2 are lagunas I so want to get my hands on them and smash the hell outta them, nothing is ever to nice to smash

04-17-2011, 09:26 PM
yes Ricky booby you have made your point and NO I WILL NEVER SMASH THIS so move on please........AND Prince Valiant no its not supposed to be that glossy thats the difference between Flat black in Krylon and Duplicolor vinyl paint

04-17-2011, 09:30 PM

Heres a better pic of redone ones the one in the back is already redone have to redo the front one

04-28-2011, 07:10 PM
I must of missed this thread. The 73-77 a-bodies are cool and you don't see too many around anymore. My grandparents had a silver 76' 2 door Cutlass that I (very) vaguely remember that they got rid of to buy a brand new 84' Delta 88.

Look forward to more progress pics, looks good so far. Good to see that not everyone wants or has a Camaro :goof .

05-01-2011, 12:55 PM
well new to me 350 Chevy is in the house LOL came back to a 1971 350 from a Z/28 heads are still up in the air for 2.02 or not have to do more checking, guy swears they are but the casting says no they are not but either way I am happy with the motor. Now I DON'T have to put an Oldsmobile 350 in it at least, and the blue bin is just the accy's and brackets that came with it

05-16-2011, 07:39 PM
WELL BOYS / GIRLS TODAY LIMEY SAW DAY LIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A FEW MONTHS, the day I took the cutty out of garage I almost ripped my knee to shreds by pulling it out of garage and didnt see my dauhgter hit the e-brake while she was helping me clean it out ............anyways fast fwd a few months of being on crutchs ...today was day 5 of not needing them so decided to try working on car just little stuff though............. I have not mounted the hood locks on the core support side thats why it sticks up ever so slightly

1. Got the hood kinda aligned and bolted down
2. Switched the the green tail panel for my black one to start the black out process

You know, it's really not too far off from looking pretty damn sharp...

As far as the engine, what are the plans?

05-16-2011, 10:15 PM
I found a 1971 350............ stumbled across it almost passed till I ran the codes it came back to a 71 Z/28 with 2.02 valved heads factory rated at 370 HP not to be confused with the RS/SS which was only rated at 270. Anyway gonna put a healthier cam maybe flat top pistons only to get the right piston to valve clearance needed ( if needed only ) I have a Air Gap intake with a 750 holley ( proform center) carb to go on it, Just waiting for leg to heal up a little more and cam to get here then gonna dive in and get it done

06-05-2011, 10:49 AM
I parted out a 76 project Monte Carlo a few years back. Still have the swivel front bucket seats (wrong cloth color for you) with mounting brackets and I believe never used since the rebuild front A-arms with new Urethane bushings and new ball joints. If interested email at drrodder@hotmail.com I'd be around next Sunday evening to view if interested.

06-15-2011, 06:18 PM

Well got most of the interior out and YAY for me I found build sheet today and it confirms it is a Lime Green Coded Malibu Classic, and at least the car is not sitting on two different front wheels anymore LOL and sadly I took off the Texas plates today in favor of my Illinois ones

07-01-2011, 10:41 PM
well got everything mocked up today July 1st I think it looks pretty good all but the green dash it kinda throws it off a little bit

08-03-2011, 10:05 PM
Well sold the welds off to get a motor then ended up not needing to sell for I found one cheap as hell running at that, its only a 305 but at least it get the Malibu on the road instead of sitting thru another whole winter waiting for a motor got different wheels to replace the welds I sold as well just need the center caps now, yea I know its only a 305 but it will get it on the road faster than before LOL

running car with small engine > non running car with big engine.

08-03-2011, 10:34 PM
right that is why I went smaller to at least get it on the road this year LMAO

08-04-2011, 09:30 AM
I like the look of the new rims. Oh and about the green dash, no one said that they had taste in interior colors back in 74. Love the car, brings me back to the 75 Malibu Classic Wagon that my parents had (first car that I can remember). Didnt they come from the factory with the 305?

08-04-2011, 09:56 AM
yes they came with in 76 3 optional motors 305, 350, and what this car is supposed to have a 400 but anywho for the 75 bucks I paid for this motor I am not gonna complain LOL

08-19-2011, 09:08 PM
Yay for me getting closer 305 chevy 350th BOP trans with shift kit

08-19-2011, 09:11 PM

Why is everyone so hung up on proper punctuation ?

Are we back in grade school or what ?

Is this better ?

Prince Valiant
08-30-2011, 01:39 PM
Why is everyone so hung up on proper punctuation ?[I'm not sure if people are "hung up" on it, but punctuation does make what you have to say easier to read.

Are we back in grade school or what ? If it was, improper grammar would be more understandable.

Is this better ?No; there is no space between "better" and "?"

Properly written, it would appear: Is this better?

Don't be offended by it...it means that people actually care somewhat about what you've got to say. Some semblance of proper punctuation and grammar would make it far easier to decipher.

<<<good deed for the day [/smug]

08-30-2011, 01:47 PM
Yea I guess so, but I never have done it.

08-30-2011, 07:20 PM
Dam rain started this afternoon, or I would have had the exhaust cut to length.

So this is all I have for today may go out to put the new grill on later, if rain slows down!

08-30-2011, 11:18 PM
Well decided since I could not work on motor, I would install the Grill I painted up, and where you see the chrome showing on the painted black grill I rubbed each one of the off with my fingers and they are sore let me tell you what ............ LOL
