This thing is clean. Needs the car-bark removed, headliner fixed, front bumper replaced (bent) and the column repaired, but man is it loaded. Power everything INCLUDING power rear vent windows. We just got home a little while ago and had it running in about 10 min with a new battery and some gas. :headbang

Now I need to throw some wheels on it and the exhaust . :thumbsup

Cool glad to hear its home. What kind of wheels are you putting on it?

Probably just some Olds Rallys for right now, better than 3 wire caps :rolf
I also have some aluminum slots and some American Racing tailgunners but I think the slots are a bit too 70's and I don't know how the tailgunners would look on it.

Glad it is going well with it. Sounds like you won't have much invested for a neato rust free daily g-body, can't argue that :headbang . I'm weird enough that I'd be interested in checking it out sometime ;).

No pics yet, we got it off the trailer spent 10 minutes getting it started and then it started downpouring.

The guy I got it from was a SUPER nice guy too. Me, my buddy and my wife spent a little while shooting the breeze with him.
Oh and it has an aluminum hood too. :banana :headbang

So what are the plans for it? Daily, or keep it salt free and make a cruiser out of it ;).

Well the original plan was to make it the daily. BTW it fired right up again today , hee hee hee [/giddy little school girl]
But on the way home me and my buddy were talking, he said I should get a winter beater because it's so clean or at least have it undercoated. I don't know what I am gonna do now, I don't want it to rot, but I did buy it to drive. Right now I am leaning towards driving it and just washing it all the time, aand hoping one winter won't kill it , then getting a beater next year. Unless I come across a super cheap Escort or something.

I have learned to never say never. ;)
But I don't plan on it right now.

I'd say get a winter beater too :). Too clean to get all salted and rotted out, drive it daily spring through fall. I initially got my LS with the plan to daily it too, but its too clean to see get rusted up.

Well we just bought a truck last night to take the place of the blue Eighty Eight, so I don't think I'll have extra scratch to buy a beater. I wonder if I get it undercoated and wash it every week if it would be ok this winter.

I'm sure I could hook you up with a nice winter beater!!

Hook me up too :). Partial trade of the GTA's for a beater? Cav prefered ;).

I'd think one winter the thing will survive if you keep it up, but I'd sure feel guilty driving an older rust free car through salt  .

I agree get a beater for winter, couple hundered dollar car just for a few months.

Rocket Power

Yeah at max it would see just this winter, The thing is I made a deal to downsize the fleet so I could get this one. :rolf
So adding a beater wouldn't bring the car count down. And I am running out of room here. :goof

I am waiting till I put some wheels on it :goof
Black steelies with bad woodgrain don't make it look good, but if it has decent wheels to set off the bad woodgrain, then you have something :rolf

All right I took some pics today. I have been sick so I haven't put wheels on it, so just use your imagination and pretend I have some 17's up on it. :goof

I was feeling a bit better so I started to heat gun off the woodgrain till my fingers got sore. The paint under the wood on the fender is so thin in spot you can see primer  and they shot some brown around the gas door

But the paint on the rest so far is very nice, you'll probably see some of the dirt that came from under the chrome trim too :D

Is that all dirt, or any rust on the body? Hard to tell ;). Looks good though :D. Put my GTA's on it, that would look slick :).

Yeah the GTA's would look nice I bet. Then it could look fast, even though with 2.29 gears and a 307 it won't be . :rolf

Haven't found a speck of rust yet :headbang The brown stuff along the bottom of the doors and around the wheel wells is vinyl "wood" I didn't get off yet. Need to pull the trim to get it off.
Some dirt came out from the chrome near the top of the fender/window sill area when I pulled the "wood" out from under it. That brown gas door is gay as hell though :goof Stupid wood grain. I still have to pull some trim off to get the "wood " out from under it but at least now I can see what it'll look like w/o wood.

Well here it is so far
http://usera.imagecave.com/vista461/wagonsmall.jpg
Got most of the wood grain off, just need to pull the "Cutlass Cruiser" emblems and get that stuff.
Put on some 14" SSIII's I had and some huge 236/60 14's in the back. :goof
It needs bigger tires but hey I was working with what I had :rolf

It's getting there and as soon as I get new clips to hold on the trim, it's going back on.

It may even get the 442 wheels off Angies car in a while :headbang
She said I could have them if I bought he some new ones when her car is done. It's going under the knife this winter/next year.

Well I tried changing out the shiter bowl and was unsuccessful while the column was in the car, so I pulled it out. The I figured I just pull the column out of the four door, paint it and slap it in, well it doesn't have cruise  and WTF ?!?! no tilt wheel?!?!?! This is the first G-olds I have had w/o tilt wheel. What kinda goof orders a/c and power locks/seat/windows and doesn't get cruise or tilt :fire

So I am not sure yet if I am going to just throw the 4dr column in and leave till spring or if I am going to piece the shifter bowl into the original.

I thought about swapping in the buckets/console and floor shift column from the 442 but it's a darker maroon(claret) and the wagon has a more red color interior. :(

Next up after the column is rear gear. 2.29 is great for the salt flats but not for me, unfortunately my parts GP has 2.41's, not worth the effort. I have to check the 4 dr yet.

I heard that its a bit harder to steal a non tilt column g-body, the actuator rod is harder to get at or something. At least thats a benefit maybe ;).

I'm fairly sure I have a column for the car. if you get desperate, gimme a call and I'll check.
