So I goto Autozone to have my SES light cleared. "We don't clear codes anymore". I was just there a few weeks back and they cleared it no questions asked. What gives? I need to pass emissions and will fail with the light on. The car is a GTP. I've been told to unhook the battery for x time. This doesn't seem to do a thing. Any other auto stores in the area actually clear codes?

I can imagine it got pretty out of hand. They probably had tons of people stopping just for that and loosing productivity within the company. Imagine How annoyed you would probably get.

Stop in by me and I can clear the code for you. Just let me know when you want to do it. :thumbsup Preferably in the morning.

Edit: ahh crap. You're in Hartland. Im in West allis. My guess is jeff could probably do it.

Not with obdII. I bought a $40 code reader for obdII from Harbor freight. It clears them too.

Hmm. Harbor Freight and $40.. Sounds like a winner.

WARNING -- Do not attempt to clear the code and then go through emissions. Their scanner will not read the computer for about 50 miles (SES sill come back in that time) and it will confuse the tech's. They will then have to sniff the car, so if you have the car set-up to fail but pass for code check only, you will still fail.

BELIEVE ME ON THIS.

Hope this helps you out or at least saves you some major headache.

Not sure if it will help you out as it is a GTP, but...there has been several WRX/STi owners that have got the CEL associated with a Catless setup to clear with a mechanical CEL fix. You can fab one up with two spark plug defoulers I believe.

Wow, I was told what I did wrong right after it failed, bigtime. But then again what was your code for originally. I was running without catz. :wooo

A 94 shouldn't be ODBII so maybe they only have odbII stuff

It failed :( Y2K was right. Their scanner rejected it. Said the ses had to reset itself. Now I guess I have to driive 50 miles give or take. I think my rear o2 eliminator may be shot as well. GRR! :fire Said on the sheet something about catalsyt, o2 heater, and o2 sensor. Great!

once you clear the codes it can sometimes clear the PCM system checks. If that happens you'll never pass emissions even though your light is off. Its better to find and fix the light and then go. Or know your car will pass the sniffer and then it doesn't matter. my 02' had a light, I cleared it and about a week later I went in and failed cause all the system checks had not been performed.

Now you get to truely fix the car and pass. That sucks
I still have a scanner to clear codes BTW

A 94 shouldn't be ODBII so maybe they only have odbII stuff

from what i read on tccoa and cougarnuts.com, the '94 is a OBDII since it was the first year for the 4.6, and i also know this because elders had the connecter for it and scanned it, and i had a bad EGR
