Big ol' Eighty Eight with a 3800 V6. I have hit 33 mpg with all highway, but it's down to 26 mixed, would probably help if I replaced the MAP sensor, TP sensor and the O2 sensor it wants. And it's got 177,000miles, not bad for a 96 :thumbsup

Yes it's a 4x4 (Z-71). 3.42 gears out back, all-aluminum motor, electric fans, cruise control on about 70. And that's the 310 hp H.O. motor on top of it. I bet if the speed limit was 55 all the way up north, it would be even better. Seems when I go over 70, the MPG drops. And that 23 isn't a fluke. Seems if I stick to the 70 threshold, it's pretty predictible. Heck, even cruise at 75 with the A/C kickin in mid July, we got 20.5 all the way up there. Can't complain.. the 4.6L F150 I traded in got 15 highway.... if I babied it.

I've learned to have a light right foot. Can't afford to have a heavy one anymore... :goof

Personally, I would be looking into a Corolla or Civic over the Cobalt. Both have been proven time and time again to have great build quality/reliability/fuel economoy, and have continuously slapped around the domestic market in those fields. A non-vtec civic will get you close to 30 mpg...city. The automatic cobalt I was driving for a rental had an average of 22 mpg with no beating. What the ****? A lot of that was on the freeway too.

I agree on the Civic. I have a 96 Civic Hatchback and it is most likely the best thing I have ever bought. The car never gives me any issues and I make sure it get normal preventative maintenance. My city / highway combined per tank is around 36 MPG and all highway is better than that. How can you beat that? The value of the so called ricers will be going up with the gas prices the way they are going. Even the old crapy ones.

Im now saving 330$ a month between payments and gas with this car, not to mention i might break even on my loan when i go to trade it in later down the road because these cars hold their value so well :stare

I love that civic already, its got a really nice comfotable interior, the gauges are sweet looking at night and the car actually looks (dare i say) "sinister" in its all black state :devil

The only mods will be an AEM intake and badges removed and tinted windows.

This car would looks sweet as hell with some black or graphite rims and a polished lip

I like the intake's because it made a drastic driveability improvment on my 02 cavalier at the time which had the same hp, makes it a ton more fun to drive around town.

Ill be at oscars with it tonight :shades

Don't forget the underbody neons and stickers. A park bench on the back is always a nice touch too. :goof

Edit: You also need an unpainted body kit.

congrats Tom. Who was your salesman? Most of the actual sales guys there are good, but 2 of the managers are complete asswads. Glad you took that over the two **** options (i.e. cobalt/focus). Sorry to all you lovers...but those things are complete ass compared to their import counterparts.

I'll be up there tonight too. Now we're gonna have another civic racing around highway , haha.

20 city? is that a mix? I get about 18-19 mixed in my 2002 without ever going past 2500 rpms.

my 94 blazer with the HO 4.3 got around 18 city, 24 highway if i drove nice (which i didn't). the 96 i drove for awhile got 14 city, 19 highway. my buddie's gets about 20 city, 25 highway. all i've seen from the S-series with the 4.3 is inconsistency, its like some are freaks, some not. i'd believe 20 mpg city

I see 15-16 city and 26 highway w/ 01 SS. 02 Cavalier is around 30 last time I checked and 03 Sportster is 50.
