Was on my way home the other night and came up on what i would call a dune buggy on hwy 16 in pewaukee. The first thing I thought was GO-KART?! :wooo Had just an open frame and the guy was doin 75 on the freeway!! Was definitely an awesome sight... tried to get some pics but they didn't turn out cuz it was dark out. :(

those actually aren't that uncommon or at least they weren't 20 years ago. Supposedly its a relatively easy modification to do to older vw bugs

Well this one looked like some guy just welded the frame together in his garage and strapped an engine to the back.... I was real impressed it could handle freeway speeds!

I love those things! We had one when I was a kid- slot rims, roll bar,
bass boat-blue metal flake paint. Pistol Pete's had a dune buggy night about a month ago, they got a pretty decent number of them to show up. http://carshow.netfirms.com/062905.shtml

I saw a yellow one on Hwy 16 by Hwy 83 about a month back. Pretty crazy to see on the freeway.

That's pretty sweet, I've seen some up north a little ways. Coime to think of it I saw like two in the U.P. on their way to a car show in kingston. Occasionally I'll find one rolling through pewaukee down by the lake front. Usually some guys take out their incredibly nice cars and roll through and stop to eat at one of the new restaurants.

Those are pretty awesome, wish I woulda known about the show at pistol petes and I woulda been there!

Here's the closest pic I could find to the one I saw:

More like a go-kart, but with street tires of course. And I realized the other day that I don't think it had a license plate, so I doubt it's even street legal :shades

What color was the cage? I saw one a while back that was black, had green hobbiest plates. But the turn signals didnt work so the guy would do hand signals.

Theres a light blue one that some guy in Pewaukee built back 10 years or so ago....Last time I saw it was parked in North Lake a few years ago....It was all street legal but he still had a hard time with the PDs pulling him over just to harass him.....

Thats more of a rail car than a dune buggy.
