Had anyone seen the news yet? There is a tire factory/recycling center in Watertown on fire throwing out some nasty smoke. They said it could burn for a few days.

Almost looks like a small volcano with all the smoke.

Just looked outside. It's nasty looking in the sky. Smoke is blowing all the way to Delafield. Interesting to see what it might look like in a few hours. Wish I had my camera.

I was wondering why the sky looked weird in that direction. I was over by Sunset Dr. in Waukesha for lunch.

I was working in Wisconsin Dells today; could see it clearly from there, and at my office in Waukesha, it is just as visible. My boss lives like 2 or 3 miles away from the fire; West of Watertown off of Hwy 16/19. Smoke can be seen from easily over 100 miles from the point source.

Here is a quick satellite image website that you can zoom in on the fire; I will try to find a less grainy satellite feed:

Wow!!!! :stare :stare Those satellite pictures are amazing!!

Here, I thought I was going to have a really original story to tell. :rolf I went out for lunch in Brookfield and I looked up and the sky looked so sunny and warm in one direction, but then in another direction dark grey like a major metropolis smog cloud, I noticed right away it didn't seem like a storm cloud. I had no idea!!

I can see it here in Cedarburg, saw it from West Bend, and could also see it in Milwaukee.

I kept my eye on it during the day. I was guessing that the cloud was more than 4,000 feet up because the angle I saw it at changed little as I drove 40 miles. The prevailing winds didn't change directions either.

Damn, I never had a chance to see it, besides on the news ofcourse. Good to hear no one was hurt.

Am I the only one that thinks Watertown is trying to be like Springfield (from the Simpsons) with the always burning tire fire? :rolf

I thought the same thing too when I saw it from the frontage road in front of my apartment.
