So I went to the Brian Redman International Challenge (BRIC),with my Father. The BRIC is a Vintage race car event, for those of you who dont know.

I was about to go into the Tent to get my Autogragh from Mario Andretti, when I noticed the start of a Race coming up the main stretch. I could see the tops of the cars only due to the concrete barrier. I saw 2 cars get together, then hell broke loose.

Cars were just cresting the hill were the accident occured and started plowing into the pile at top speed. cars over the top, under, up the barrier.

It made me sick for the rest of the day. Thank GOD nobody was seriously hurt.

Ouch!

My brother was up there helping Sportscar Services from Mequon get cars up and running.

I heard a rumor that a Nissan 92CP was there.

Wow, Carson (Head of Security) must of had his hands full that day. Glad no one was hurt. That is a strange place to have a wreck. The must have been close to full speed at that location.

I was up there with my dad. I remember there was a crash around the time Mario was signing autographs, but I didn't know the crash was that big.

On the brigher side, there was a new ZO6 there, very impressive. I saw Heak Seeker going under the track between turns 1 & 2, a few friends, and quite a few nice cars.

I got burnt because I didn't use sunscreen for the first few hours, bad idea.

Today was a good day, I got to drive around an LS1 loosing traction in second, see lots of nice cars, have a good time with my dad, saw wedding crashers with my friend, changed the oil in the GN; life is good(better if my back wasn't red).

That is awful. The black and white Camaro and the Blue one were pristine. I took pics of alot of those cars in the pits. That class was the entire reason why I went up to watch.

We saw them bringing the wrecked cars into an area next to the main grandstand and they were all pretty mangled. To my knowlege nobody was seriously hurt.
We didn't see the crash, but when Carson announced that "all group 6 drivers to Race Control" and "Everyone to clear pit row now!" I figured it a was big/bad wreck.
Talking with Carson later on, he said this was his largest single wreck as far as number of cars involved in a single incident.

I was up there with Jason- SRT4ME and Andrew (miata w/ hoops). We were told that the wreck moved the schedule back quite a bit and touring was gong to be at least an hour behind schedule, so we took a walk to the infield paddock from the touring paddock to show where our touring passengers where to wait for us. Meanwhile, touring started w/o us and by the time we got to the cars, made our way around the track to the false grid for release, we only got 1 lap in. Knowing we were short on time- I gave a good burnout down pit row to the exit and big time cannonballed the first turns to help build heat in the tires & brakes. We were able to pass quite a few cars still including wacking a C5 Z06. We both got refunded our $$ from that session though because of the miscommunication.

Yeah, it was nice that RA refunded our money. Just some poor communication following the unfortunate incident on the track. TONS of fun and awesome experiences this weekend otherwise, I'm so glad I went (this was my 1st time at RA). Can't wait to go again, but next time for a track day/weekend! :headbang Just gonna need some new Hoosiers, first. :D

SSMike posted a link http://www.pbase.com/atrltd/bric2005 where the drivers and track officials are evidently discussing what happened. Sounds like the green flag was given late and the 2 leaders started racing before the green and then hit the brakes when they failed to see the green they were expecting; someone tried squeezing on the side against a wall and started a pileup. That's my summary of those comments anyways.

Is there a video of what happened?

what a waste
of some BEAUTIFUL Cars! :durr :crying

that was a classic example of driver ERROR.
where someone is trying to win the race before the first turn!

it only took 2 cars to tangle, and spin, and the rest crashed into them from behind. :stare
:chair:

that track is apparently too big & too fast for those drivers!
:wow
