The Blue Angels have been buzzying around my house the last few days. I will be sitting inside and hear them scream by. Kind of cool, as I have not seen them since I was in Miramar (El Toro) a few years ago.

i think theyre running around 700mph, sound barrier illegal on land, tends to break windows.

The planes were all fast as hell but this one plane was really hauling the mail.

I sat down (freaking hot out) then I hear a ROAR

----------------------------------> then the plane already passed me and pulling up :wooo

Seriously everyone was like " HOLLY SH!T "

Like I said it had that cloud around it for a few seconds and I was waiting for it to break the sound barrier :headbang

But it didnt

Isnt it illegal to fly between buildings of a downtown district? A bunch of people said that Friday some of the planes appeared to be playing tag flying between some of the taller structures. I saw a couple flying yesterday and they were LOOOOOOW, they had our building shaking when they flew over top of us too :thumbsup :headbang Pretty f@cking cool :devil

If you are in the military and have rank, I think you can get away with a thing like that.

I personally, do not mind. In fact, I like seeing it when it happens.

What I really wanted to see is one of the planes fly under the Hoan Bridge (hope it doesn't fall on them)!

Ok so today I was all HYPED up about the air show and I asked everyone that I bumped into if they went.

Two ppl said " I hear a Large BOOM "

So I really think they did break it :wooo

Im not sure if I didnt hear it because I was insanely close :headbang or the jet engine was muffling the BOOM out.

Some times I think about joing the armed forces just to get the CHANCE to be on a air craft carrier :thumbsup

Yeah, the air show was awesome. It' amazing how much power those F-18s have! I dont think they broke the sound barrier though. Chances are the loud noise was from them flipping on the afterburners. Either way, they are loud!

A sonic boom really isn't a "boom" though. It's a shockwave of sound that builds up on itself alot like a bow wave on a boat... so there's no way the jet engine sound could drown out the sound of the plane breaking the barrier, because it pretty much IS that sound intensified by itself... if that makes sense?

And then once that sound rolls out in the city it will sound like a Boom or Crash :wooo

Either wich way my buddys herd it only once and thats when the F-18 was cliping along so fast I didnt see it right away :wow

I think the only way they would have broke the sound barrier would be if they were a ways out over the lake or something where its far enough away that it wouldnt break stuff.

I remember when I was at Ft. Leonard Wood for basic training they had certian times of the day when they were allowed to do it, usualy right after lunch. We would be out in the field crawlin through the mud or something and they would come flying over and then wham, that shock wave is strong, you can feel it just smack you in the chest.

Second on the list of cool $hit was the warthogs practicing tank busting with that gatling gun on front. Awesome sound. :headbang

The Blue Angles don't go supersonic in their show, but they do push it. If they did break mach, you'd know. Trust me! :wooo

In case anyone wants to know, the Blue Angles are Lot 5 thru Lot 7 F/A-18's. That means they were brand new to the Navy in 1983-1985 making them the oldest Hornets still flying. There are 3 diferences between the Angles and the Hornets I work on which are 1) the gun is removed from the nose in order to put a smoke bottle in there. 2) there are springs installed on the stick grip in order to keep more tention on the stick itself, making it easier for pilots to control the aircraft in close formations. 3) the Low Level Bypass Valve in one of the fuel tanks is modified to alow fuel to continue to flow freely while upside down. Also, the pilots fly without G suits. Why they do this, I have no clue. The #5 aircraft is always flown by a Marine, who is currently Maj Anderson, one of my former pilots. Very cool guy. :headbang

A few years ago...ok maybe a decade ago. One of the planes did break the sound barrier while doing a show in Canada. Apparently he was told to pick up a little speed, and this resulted in him breaking the sound barrier....AND about 8 city blocks of windows.

Heck yeah, the show was awesome saturday. I am on my way to get a different view from the bridge over summer fest today. They were close as hell to that bridge. And yes, they were splitting buildings....Military aircraft are the bomb!!

I was behind marcus today for the second air show. I enjoyed it a lot but I got sun burn too bad (dumbass me forgot the sun block) I had my Film camera and took some pics. I am very dissappointed because I use the same auto everything and the pictures still look like sh*t. Pictures are very grainy and it is ISO 800 Film. Here are some examples

Apparently he was told to pick up a little speed, and this resulted in him breaking the sound barrier....AND about 8 city blocks of windows. Rick, I was fascinated by the thought of this, so I looked it up and found exactly 1 reference on all of Google to this :stare It was 4 decades ago :D In Kelowna, B.C. in 1969. They said a pilot in the airshow needed to catch up to his squadron and accidentally broke the speed of sound, causing a sonic boom, breaking 8 blocks of windows just like you said. http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-75-246-1220-20/that_was_then/science_technology/kelowna_sonic_boom There is even a video but I don't have sound on this computer so I'll have to look at that later. Anyone else have information on "accidental sonic booms"?

Me and my buddy drove down their and it was awesome. It was awesome how low the we were flying. At times we would drive through their smoke over the hoan bridge they were so low. Watching them fly is what makes people want to join the navy or air force. F#cking awesome!!

I caught most of the Blue Angels show Sun near the Lafyette Hill bridge and as expected it was pretty bada$$. On 2 seperate passes from a solo jet heading north to south, you could see a vapor trail following it.
