in an open terminal program like sirdoom used to boot you. Your modem thought an incoming call was coming and tried to pick it up :D

Man, you used SirDooM as well? I guess we are both old school. The other one was typing +++ to get into command mode, that would really throw a lot of people for a loop. (ATO restores the call)

hell yeah man, I was on a couple of MajorBBS boards. Gone are the days of modem init strings making a BIG difference in connection. (still have memorized the best one for my 14.4 zoom modem tho: AT&F1&D2&C1&K0B0S11=45) We also used seripx for a few games like c&c and stuff. I even got seripx to make a home ipx network over a phone line with two modems.

I in fact still have sirdoom on my pc in my doom2 directory. Used to do 4 player doom2 over modems... but you had to use "ticdup" to remove 2 of every 10 frames I believe it was for it not to lag too bad. Worked pretty well. We had about 50 people on the board and 14 lines I think... we ran a bunch of tournaments in doom, heretic, and duke3d, and a c&c ladder but quake never did run very well over the modem so that was about the extent of it all. Those were some fun times I tell ya.
