Two years ago I came across this site http://www.dansdata.com/personal/Bombs.html on how to make Sparkler Bombs and basically, you take about 100-1000 sparklers and pack them together tightly and stick 1 in the top as a fuse and let it burn. The idea is for it to burn all the sparklers simultaneously in a giant blast. Well I tried it 2 years ago with about $30 of sparkers and it was pretty disappointing.

Turns out, there is one extra step that the website doesnt explain - you need to wrap the entire side of the bomb tightly with black electrical tape!! This confines the blast so it has no direction but UPwards to shoot out.

I tried again yesterday and it made all the difference!! I found a place with Buy 1 Get 1 Free fireworks and got 6 packages of sparklers , each containing 12 boxes, each with 6 sparklers = 432 sparklers. It cost about $20 this time.

Here's what it looked like, ready to blow (minus the fuse sparkler inserted seconds later.):

Here's a video of the bomb going off (http://s95370645.onlinehome.us/files/sparklerbomb1b.mpg). :stare :rockwoot:

Unfortunately my cameraman started recording right away and the fuse sparkler takes a while to burn, so he didnt know when to restart recording. He caught it just after ignition and the fun is beginning.. There is a camp fire in the background to give you a judge of size, and the blast went as high as the roof of a 2 story house!!

My next plan is to try something in the 500-1000 range and get a better video of it! :thumbsup

That electrical tape melts quickly. Try to find something that doesn't melt as fast such as hose clamps.

Ya but for the short time, it should work well? :confused

I did something similar with a racket ball and cutting off the tips of strike anywhere matches. Jam them all in the ball and throw the ball... explodes on impact.

Man I wanted badly to do that one when I was a kid (it was the only bomb I could get parts for at that age..). I think I had trouble getting that many match stick tips. Is one 3x5" box enough? How good is the explosion? I can imagine it'd be pretty tedious cutting the heads off and trying to avoid igniting them in the process.

these things are fun a kid in high skool showed me one day when i skipped but thats beside the point...but he showed me with these "special ones" the pack u buy them in has 3 different colors if u use the green ones and wrap the crap out of them with duct tape it makes a nasty bang..louder than todays m-80...so anyone get pinched for lighting out fireworks?

Ours were all legal (permit) and we lit them off at about 9:30 Friday but my idiot neighbors decided they'd put on their show from 11:00-midnight last night. :fire

Nevermind, decided it might not be the best idea to put a picture of that on the internet! :)
