Can you run a quad (ATV) at the track?

Just out of wild curiosity, does anyone have a ballpark figure for 1/4 mi ET and MPH for a late model Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV? Is there any place I could find something like that?

Unless they're set up for drag racing, the quads are pretty much best suited for an 1/8 mile run. A Raptor will top out MPH wise on the low to mid 70's in basically stock trim and would probably achieve that before the 1/4 mile. As far as times.. I have no clue which is why I was wondering if they were legal to run at GLD. I'd bring mine down sometime just to find out.

The quicker 4 stroke sport quads should run the 1/8th in the low 9's @ about 65mph. What that figures out to in full 1/4 is anyone's guesstimate (15-16 seconds maybe?). A raptor weighs about 400lbs and has roughly 42hp so throw on a 150-200 lb rider on there and the power to weight ratio suddenly doesn't seem so favorable.

Wow, thanks for the info, that sheds a lot of light on it. The reason I asked is cause I have "zero" experience with high power small vehicles (ATV, bike etcs) except a 900cc Jetski and a 660 Raptor ATV. The Raptor felt "incredibly fast" to me, but after reading into it, it sounds like I was just fooled by my inexperience.

I guess that only fortifies my need to get a ride on a Hayabusa to find out what a REALLY fast ride feels like!!! :headbang

For what they are, that's not too bad. You could probably mess with gearing and shave a little off. But as they sit stock, they are topped out at about 1000'. But I know guys who have thrown a small shot of "persuasion" on them and then it's a wild ride! :headbang You don't need much on a 40 hp engine.

I guess if a Busa spotted you out half a track, that would be a close race.
