I agree if I catch a big fish I usually let it go, no need to eat that one when there are plenty others. But that thing is HUGE...

How I read it was that they were going to return it, however it died before they could do so. Something about having to negotiate its return with the village or whatever.

And I could have caught that the hillbilly way, by putting my arm in its mudhole and letting it grab on.
