I bought an 82 4dr Cutlass. It'll be coming home Monday. It has a bad 231 (is there any other kind? :goof )
So I'll either swap in the 231 out of my GP parts car or put in the 307 I have in the garage. :thumbsup
It's not in too bad of shape, esp for the price. :D

It'll be my daily by fall so Angie's 442 doesn't have to pull winter duty again.

On the downside the Achieva is leaving in order to make room. :(
I liked the car but used motors are too much money for me and I don't feel like puttng in a new crank and possibly a rod or 2.

I think there is a medical term for your condition :goof

Olds-itis.

I'm not sure its worth the time to bother putting in a 231, just put in a good ole' 350 Chevy :shades ;). Should get ok mpg I suppose....my 231 Cutlass didn't do so well from what I remember.

I'd love to have a Malibu wagon for a driver, maybe if I find a decent one for a good price by fall I'll do it, but I doubt that will happen :(. I'll just get an early 90's Cav or such.

:D
Yeah the guys at work are always giving me crap too.
They all tend to buy the same brand cars time after time, but for some reason I am the freak. :goof

Maybe it has something to do with quantity :headbang

I would have much rather had a wagon too, have you seen how much they're going for on Ebay? Seems like you can't touch a decent one for under $2 or $3K

ummm ...... about that chevy motor in my Olds..... :shades

Now if I could find a cheap Turbo Buick motor....

:thumbsup :headbang

That would make for a killer sleeper. I had the nasty thought of getting a 4 door Cutlass with a TR drivetrain for the best sleeper awhile back. Malibus are modified all the time, it would make too much sense to do it to a 4 door Regal and Wagons are also popular to hot-rod....nobody seems to care about the Cutlass/Bonneville 4 door g-bodies, perfect sleepers.

I have heard the gong rate for hot air (84-5) turbo buick engines ~ $500 for a decent one. Of course an intercooled one would be even better :thumbsup
Wait this was supposed to be a cheap car with decent gas milage, of course with efi I would get pretty decent mileage, and the turbo would only be there for passing power :rolf

And no I don't have a logical reason why it's OK to put a buick motor in my Olds but not a chevy :goof

I do remember seeing a 4dr cutlass with a TB in it years ago (early 90's I think) in a magazine.
Hmmm I could part out my 86 442 for the 4dr......
I am such a retard :rolf

Go for it, do the hotair motor :D. Would have nice mpg and you can have your precious 3.8 ;).

How much did you pay for the car, if I may ask.

PM-ing ya :thumbsup

I may just throw in the 85 231 from the GP for now because I won't have the extra $$ for the tb till bonus time. At least it will be driveable then.

When I originally started searching for a winter car back in the fall of 99' I test drove a 86' 4 door blue Cutlass with the 307/200-4r with 80k miles or so, very solid and rode nice only had some light front end damage(header panel/fender) for $400....passed on it, was an original owner old lady car. Instead I got the 2 door 86' with the 3.8/200-C :D. Could of had my first real Olds motor but perhaps down the road ;).

My grandpa has a very nice 84' Delta 88 with 70-80k miles, too big for my taste but very very minor rust on it. Maybe I'll pimp that someday :headbang .

Yeah I have always liked the 80's RWD Deltas but never bought one.
I do see a G-bod Malibu in our future though, me and Angie both like them. But it'll be awhile I think :D

Well it looks like I'll be putting a 307 in it.

After weighing a few things like:

1) I already have the 307 at home and the 231 is at work still in a car

2) It came out of an H/O , don't know if it was original to that H/O or not but it was removed from it. That's gotta be worth something. :rolf

3) Even the wife said not to bother with the V6. (I did marry a gearhead afterall) :headbang

So I'll need to start shopping for some Olds frame mounts, since I used my last pair (brand new GM) on the 86 when I returned it to Olds power.
I'd also like to get a 307 engine compartment harness and I am going to need to buy or fab the frame extention so I can run the 2004R in the 82 chassis. :banana

Of course I will keep the V6 stuff in case I come across a screamin' deal on so TR stuff. :D

Well the final part of the deal with my wife was done today :(
The Achieva is at work. I liked that car but by the time I got there the rod was knocking at idle too. :wow Not just at 1500 plus rpm. Not sure if it would have made another 40+ mile trip without kicking a rod out the side of the block. :goof
