I noticed coming home from work with my 89 Mustang 5.0 GT, my Engine Temp gauge was creeping up to the red mark, but would keep bouncing down and up. When I got home, I opened up my hood and it smelled like coolant real bad. I checked under the car and I have a coolant leak coming from right behind the raidiator. Anyone have any clue what it could possibly be??

Don't put that sludge in. If it is the radiator get a new one. That sludge in a bottle is a bandaid..

probably time to just go ahead and plan on new hoses, t-stat, t-stat housing, radiator cap, and at the very least boil the rad clean...

...rule out bad HG as well.

I had a leaky head gasket on my 2000 Subaru and the Bars leak worked. It is out of warranty and would have taken a couple days to replace them. I had the car at the dealer the other day and they added more Bars leak as a preventative because alot of head gaskets are failing. They did not even ask me if I wanted it put in. It is just a band-aid to get the car over 100,000 miles and out of the extended warranty, or sold in my case.

Simple Check: Your coolant might be low. Try topping it off first. I know this one from experience.
