Just figured I'd say hey! I'm a :newbie here, although I've read quite a few posts here in the past. Seems like a pretty knowledgible f-body crowd here -

I've had the car in my sig for around 4 years now, and I'm always screwing around with it. Paid 500 for it and have spent - errrr....let's just say over 1K on it.

I just dropped the engine/trans in it 2 days ago, and have a good couple more days before I fire it up and break things in - again -

But that's another story....

Thanks for the compliment 90Z, but I've found out that no matter how fast you think you are - someone's faster. But the car lacks in the "looks" dept...unless you dig red primer.

And yes you're right...I'm on Thirdgen.org AKA Confuzed1. I've seen both you and Loud91RS on there too.

I'll have to get some pics of mine, once its out of the garage. Mines dark maroon, with visible rust, and some fender benders in the front. Adds to the sleeper effect. :thumbsup

Well, I just discovered that although I have multiple pics of my engines, and other parts - I no longer have any of the whole car! I did have pics on Thirdgen reader's rides, but that was lost when the board crashed.

I'll take a few pics after I get the engine/trans install done next week. Sure you don't want to see pics on jackstands w/no tires!

BTW, I'm livin in Kenosha right now, but I'm not "from" here originally. Born and raised in Cincinnati. Same place I got the Z at.

I don't think we've met loud91rs - but I did make an offer on the cowl hood you were selling awhile ago...

Thanks for the welcome everyone! :thumbsup

Uh...that 496 must not be too shabby either!!! I bought the complete package to-fit from Moser. I just put the thing in along with the engine/trans re-install, so I don't know if I'll have any probs with it or not yet, but it really was pretty much a bolt-in deal.

And thanks for the "heads-up" 96s10 - I assume that's why you wanted me to read that long, painful post??

Just thought I'd post whore a little....

Getting close to getting the Camaro back together now! Dropped the engine and trans in the other day.

Everything seems to be going well. Luckily the conversion U-joint fit perfectly from my stock driveshaft to the 9" Ford rear, plus the torque arm bolted right up. BTW - the 9" rear is new - so I'll be breaking in an engine AND rearend this time around.

Only problem I have is that my Hooker catback isn't playing well with the 9"...it's hitting the thirdmember right at the first bend where the exhaust goes over the rear. Tweaking will be in order...

Looks like maybe 2 more days till I'm ready to fire it up! Can't wait to hear it run with rings that actually seat....hopefully..

So c'mon guys, get you're cars together!! Gas ain't gettin no cheaper that's for sure... ;)

FINALLY - started the 400 after installing TS gapless rings, windage tray, and new bearings. Engine was cleaned and re-honed.

After unscrewing up the firing order between 6 and 8 cylinders (wondered what that "pop" was)...it looks real promising! I did have a little lifter clacking when I first started it, but it faded away after a minute or so. Now idles at 850, NO SMOKE!! Heck, I might be able to tune this thing and get a few more HP now!

Just need to break in the engine and new rear, get the hood back on and bleed the rear brakes and I should be road-worthy! Oh, and my el cheapo aftermaket electric fan control is screwing up. Seems to want to run sometimes and others - not. I need to get a better setup.

Sounds good, good luck with gettin the rest of the stuff done. On my car, i just have a relay so both fans come on with ignition. Drains the battery really quick though if it doesnt want to start. :devil

Just put in a 20-30 amp toggle switch turn the fans on and off as you wish,You dont need the fans on constantly just keep an eye on the temp gauge. I had the same issue till i put in the toggle switch when starts getting up to 180-200 flip on the switch, and have the switch in the off position when starting no proplems and no big amp draw.

Thanx slow90z - I should've fixed my fan problems while I had everything apart, because it's not the first time the switch has acted up on me. Of course, it decides to not work at all now that I'm ready to get it back on the road.... :fire

I'm waiting for a new Perma-cool wiring kit to come in the mail that I ordered from Jeg's the other day - along with a couple other things. I hope its a more reliable setup than this JC Whitney POS I have now. It's ALWAYS something.

My goal is to quit pulling engines and trannys on this thing, because quite frankly - it's getting old. Just want to get what I have running right, so I can concentrate on the cosmetics. I already spent way more money on the mechanical stuff than I ever anticipated. But I'm sure I'm not alone... :chair:

But I'll get it together...I always do. :)

A good day today!! I thought I had a rod knock, and it turned out to be the dust cover on the bell housing the whole time!

Got that fixed, did a quick half*ss carb tune and hit the road for about a half an hour. It's a different car with the 9" posi, LCA's now!! I'm getting much more power to the ground. But it does feel a little different on tight turns for some reason.

My fan switch is still screwed up, because I got a defect switch from Jeg's that I have to return because it doesn't adjust any lower than 240 degress!

But it stayed at about 180 degrees while it was moving. I can tell my carb will need more tuning because every time I opened it up, my A/F meter went to full lean. I guess I'll step up the secondary jets a couple of numbers and see what that does...

But the engine seems to have even more power overall!! Just need to tune it better. :headbang
