My friend has a 94 Lumina APV van, with a 3.1 and whatever trans came stock. He ended up with a rod knock and needs a new engine, we were wondering if a 3.4 would bolt right up? its out of a camaro..a 95 camaro to be exact. the only reason we were thinkin about the 3.4 is because its available.

As far as bolting up, I don't know. But, I'd stay away from the 3.4. Especially out of a Camaro, it's probably been beat up a little bit. It's bad news when that timing belt goes, oil leaks, just bad news all around if you ask me. I've owned 2 cars with them, and had bad luck both times.

You would think so...same basic family of engines and all, IIRC. But I would think that there are just too many differences to account for considering FWD vs RWD engine mounts/front engine accessories/ and things like that. Source a 3.4 from a FWD and it should work I would think...

...but it begs the question (on a rEAL friend would ask) WHY SAVE AN APV? Be happy it died and if a minivan is still needed, get an astro.

I'll bet you're thinking of the 3.4L Twin Cam DOHC.. That one is a real *****. The one in the Camaro's is a 3.4L 60* V-6 pushrod motor, the same as the old 2.8 and 3.1L, the 60* V-6.. Much more reliable motor but I agree the FWD/RWD accessories difference could be the nail in this project's coffin.

Yea, I'm talking about the DOHC, I had it in a Lumina Z-34, and a Grand Prix SE. I didn't know that there was another 3.4...........Anyone who has ever owned a car with that motor knows exactly what I'm talking about with the timing belt!
