First off, please don't laugh me out of these forums.

Now, I have a 89 toyota pickup RWD. I was just wodnering; how hard would it be to swap in a chevy small block? How about for under $3k(not a limit, just curious)? :D
The truck has plenty of room under the hood, and the little 2.4L engine is kinda weak... so i've been throwing ideas around for a project. either rebuild and turbocharge the 4 cyl i have now (toyota actually did have a turbo version of the engine in '87 and 88'...), or swap in a whole new engine. am i retarded??? :banana

Let me know!

totally doable. If they can do it in the S10's, i'm sure you can fit it in your truck. For the price, just go pick up and engine/trans from the junkyard and start looking at ways to fab up some engine/transmission mounts. then all you really got to be worried about is little stuff like throttle linkage, transmission shifter, driveshaft, and a few other odds and ends

the truck is auto... lol
but, my neighbor is a guy who restores old cars and makes hotrods. so i'm figuring that might help a little :D

also, what about the ECU? that, in my mind, is the biggest obstacle

EDIT: anyone know of a good junkyard in the waukesha/milwaukee area?

ECU? what the heck for? that thing will be old enough soon that it wont have to pass smog, just carb it.

*EDIT* If you really must go EFI, i can get you the name/number of Rob S. He has a few complete LT1s and 4L60Es laying around. I'm sure he'd be happy to sell them.

Hey I got just the motor you need. Its a bone stock 1984 350 out of a half-ton pick up truck. The engine is complete from factory carb to exhaust manifolds. Does not come with a transmission. $500.00 takes it. Still has all accesories and wires. No complete wire harness's just the correct ends for the alternator, carb..etc. PM me if you want or ask questions. This offer goes to anyone also. I was going to put this engine in my 84 truck but I have no need for it anymore. If the price seems to high than make me an offer via PM. thanks and good luck with your idea.

back in high school my friend did this to a b2000 and about 4 other people did it after him. Very easy to do, fit etc. Need to tranny crossmember. Very light truck - he could light up the tires going about 80+ with a semi built 355 :thumbsup

A friend of mine just bought a late 80's toyota pickup with a 5.3 ls series motor and 4l60 trans. I haven't got a ride yet, but it sounds like a fun setup.
The 5.3's can be picked up fairly cheap, I've seen lower mileage examples sell for $1-2k w/ trans, pcm, accessories and everything else you may need.

ehh.. I would rather not screw around finding all of the parts that the engine needs to run. Thanks for the offer though.
