I think the cloud cover made it worthless anyway :(

I would like to get into photography. I bought a decent 5.1 mp Sony DSC-W1 cam a few months ago and don't know a rat's azz about any of the manual settings. Maybe it's a sh!tty camera for all I know but all the online reviews said it was good. All I know is the light exposure and color are usually worse than the 2.1 mp point and click one I replaced. Maybe I could attend your get together and someone could make sense of this camera... or tell me to sell it and guide me to a nicer one.

My cousin just bought that same camera and loves it. Seems to be a pretty solid unit. SONY however is sort-of known for their sometimes "unique" color/exposure qualities though. Many of those problems are easily corrected in post edit. I wouldn't mind givin you a hand figureing it out, the more the merrier!

I would bet it is a fine camera to use, the white balance might not be set correctly though. When we all meet up to go shoot, I am sure a couple of us can take a look at what you got and try and set that guy up for you! :thumbsup

anyone want to meet this weekend to do some shooting? Maybe meet for lunch and talk a little bit and then head out somewhere? Anyone interested? If there is interest, post your suggestions of what you would like to shoot also

I'd be up for it but this weekend I'll be hopefully snapping pictures of deer... in the back of my truck. But it would be fun to try and catch up with some folks later down the road.

thats quite impressive. I am still not all that impressed though with the capabilities of the 10D though. We have one here at my work that I have used several times and I am not all that impressed with it (personal opinion). I do however like the Nikon D70, though I have always been somewhat partial to Nikons.

I've only played with Olympus and Canon.. so thats all I can speak for.

I have a little bit of experience with Sony.. something about the color or something just isnt right with me.
It all comes down to your eye and what it likes.

Eh the Canon/Nikon battle will be here forever, it's all personal taste I think (just like Chevy/Ford) The 10D works for me now. Next year I'll be getting into a 1DS or 1D Mark II anyway. 35mm P+S work too, the camera doesn't always make the difference. Good composition is never created by the camera itself :goof

I've got killer shots with my old 2.1mp Oly C2100-UZ.
that's camera got me started in photgraphy. It's concidered "SLR-like".

You dont have to have a $1000 camera to have good pictures... it just might let you get away with more or get a certain effect.

some of the best shots I have ever seen on photo.net have been taken by old school full manual Pentax's, Nikons, Minoltas, Canons etc....I used to shoot an old school Minolta X-370 before I got the Nikon. I bought the X-370 in college for $100 and it was a steal at that. It still takes great pictures

I knows this is a little off topic, but I am looking for a nice digital camera. I don't want a huge $400 on or anything, just something to take to car shows and on vacations that will have clear pictures. Since you guys seem to know much more than I do on the topic, what ones would you recommend? Thanks for any help. :)

Check here www.dpreview.com

Kodak has some decent 5mp models out for $400 and less right now with 10x optical zooms.
