If this 100% toll increase is to help repair the highway, what were the tolls going to during all the years until now?

I go through 5 tolls to see a buddy of mine down in Illinois! I also have a bit of family down there too. For how much they charge now for tolls, you would think their roads would be better than ours  .

I don't think they recieve government funding for their highways, or some deal like that. Yeah those roads arent anything to write home about.

The highway system in the US was developed by the gov. with the intent of being able to move troops quickly if ever needed. To get the $$$ to build them from the gov. you had to meet thier standards (ie- limited access, certain build proprtions and bridge heights ect.) Illinios does not recieve federal $$$ for thier roads which is why they have the stupid freakin toll roads. Just like any other thing though keep raising the price so you can send the excess to a slush fund for other worthless social programs.

Oh and BTW, when Doyle was telling us that if we didn't lower the BAC level to .08 that the fed would stop funding our higways? Technically that would have been illeagal. But it's not like anyone who fought it would have won anyway
