Hi everyone, long time since ive posted but I am in need of some advise.

Im trying to choose a new transmission for my car and think iv got It narrowd down but im not positive.

the car;

1968 coronet, mild 383 , dana 60 with 4:88 gears, 29" tall tires, very hard hooking car that will break stuff.

in the future I hope to put down roughly 700hp, and want to buy a trans that will hold the power.

my choice so far is the t56 magnum. it allows me to keep the 4;88s, and cruise comftorably at 70mph, can hold 700tq and is the right price $3k (plus extra crap to complete install)

is there any options I am overlooking?

T56 for sure. Very stout transmissions.

If you're planning for 700ft-lbs of torque (boosted), I don't think you really need the torque multiplication of 4.88's.

If getting to 700ft-lbs via boost, I'd go with the mildest gears I could find...generally for a D60 it's 3.54, though I do believe there are even milder gear sets out there (3.31, 3.08, possibly sub 3's and not sure if they work across D60's for other applications) floating around. If going for a monster cubed B block that might get close to 700ft-lbs, then 4.11's would be the way to go and a t-56 would pair well with that combo.

Other options for transmissions would be going mild gear and 727 auto (cheapest). If you insist on lower gears and OD, then A-518 ($$$ to modify to live, must modify floor pan), 727 w/ gear vendors O/D (of course, 727 must be built to live behind, and then $$$ for GV OD), using a heavily modified TH700R4 with adapter plate or modify to use a GM to mopar B/RB bellhousing.

I had my T56 built by T56rebuilds.com in 2005 with their 1000 hp package. It looks like they changed their name and then closed their shop but work out of their home now. They can be reached at 832-488-0533. I shipped my trans in a Rubbermaid bin and got the new one back in less than a week on a pallet.

I'm pushing just a little bit more hp than you with shorter gears for what it's worth. I have a Pro 5.0 and LSS on it. No problems and I've sure beat on it.
