Figured I'd add a little more to the ass end of the cobra and since I just got my stingers in, I figured it would be the perfect time to polish them, and while I was at it I thought I'd tell how I did it in case any one else wants to.

What I used:
120 grit flapper wheel
220
320
400 Started to wet sand 400-300
600
800
1000

Good for under the car but you can still see the scratches the the final picture. A better way would be to get some polishing rouge like white diamond and then go to red rouge. But you won't be doing it in the kitchen. Since the rouge gets everywhere and has a ton of silica in it.

Yeah im going to start with 220 on the other one and not do it at the table at night, lighting was terrible

And don't sand in circles, you will never get the scratches out completely. (My wife is telling me what to do on this topic)

Couple of tips, (My wife is a metal refinisher, by trade and education)

Don't sand in circles, cross hatch. Sand the part one way with one grit and the next with the finer till all the scratches are gone. This fucked you hard.

Get a florescent light above the part this will show off any scratches in the finish

Prewet the sandpaper for 1 hour this will conform to the surface better and prevent sandpaper digs. (just like your color sanding a car)

Use better sanding paper go to a Auto paint store and buy auto grade sand paper, Grits, 220,330,400, 600,800,1000,1200,1500,2000,2500,and then 3000. (you skipped a few)

Get a real buffer even a cheap harbor freight will do since your not making this a career. if you don't, do the polish by hand. This will let you deal with one item where as you are dealing with the part, drill and the angle of drill. http://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-buffer-94393.html

get some polishing rouge like white diamond and then go to red rouge

Now once you pull it off take it to a car show and when they ask who did it? Tell them you did. And you can do theirs for some cash. Great second job.

Thanks for the advice, i did all hand sanding cross hatch opposite ways with each grit. I think the flapper wheel and lighting was the biggest problem.

Your welcome,

Flapper wasn't the biggest problem. Your sanding scratches were. I could still see them in the bad light and after the final polish. (their are the "spikes of light" down the pipe.) That and doing it in your kitchen, if Julie caught me working on my car parts in the house she would go ape shit. I can open packages but not play with them in the house.

Better lighting and no flapper wheel gave much better results.
