I have a 2000 grand prix gt 2dr with 170,xxx miles. I recently started leaking from the intake manifold. At what point is it to much to dump into a car. The laundry list of issues with the car : Tail lights and light sockets, struts, headlights, exhaust down pipe back, small hole in trunk, various rust spots on car. To get everything fixed will cost me roughly $1000- $1500 depending on what I get new or used. I am sure I can get it all for $700ish. Or do I say screw it and get another car. The motor purrs and the tranny is flawless. Only uses a bit of oil and no leaks. Thoughts and opinions?

economically speaking… when repairs (including your time, towing, downtime, possible rental, etc) cost more than replacing it over whatever mileage/time period you're evaluating.

Personally for 1000 I'd probably keep it going, for 1500 I'd start thinking about replacing.

Thats kind of what I am thinking. Besides, I probably would just replace it with the same car anyways.

If it's a good car fix it your next one could be a shit box, as for motor etc...

if the engine and trans are still good you could easily sell those for a little cash and then put yourself in something different. Really just depends on how much work you want to do.

If you're replacing with the same and the engine/trans are solid, just hang onto it. I've got 284K on my tahoe.. its not going anywhere.
