Early two pieces or late one piece seal motor. Casting number would help.

It came out of a 95 Z28

2 or 4 bolt mains?

The casting will be a 638 and it will be a roller block with provisions for a fuel pump. It could be a 2 or 4 bolt block, unless you build something over 500hp the 2 bolt block is just fine. These are not like the ford blocks that split when you get over 350-400 hp. Ford never could make that much power so that's the reason they scrimped on the castings.

I think you are being way to generous. I heard that them ford blocks break at right about 300hp. That is, if you could get one to make that much. AMIRIGHT?

I know from experence that you can make a fox platform fast by just putting a simple basic 350 sbc with vortec heads in it. Really fits nice between the rails with room to spare. We used a S-10 swap with the headers and mounts. Simple bracket to the K member and your set. Little metal spacer for the th350 to bolt up to the fox trans bracket and a shortened drive shaft. Every ford guy that looks at it, slaps him self on the fore head and says I COULD A HAD A REAL V8

Is it really that easy? I should toss the engine I have now and go sbc. Sounds like the old school sbc block is a lot stronger than what I currently have!

It came out of a 95 Z28

Wouldn't that make this an LT1 block? Or did someone take the LT1 block out and swap in something along the lines of an L98?

I missed the 95 Z28 part. I was thinking more along the lines of a SUV .

No, it is a LT1 block if it was from a '95 Z28. It has no fuel pump provisions and requires a LT1 intake, LT1 timing set, LT1 optispark, LT1 water pump, LT1 heads with crossover tube in the back to the front, etc, etc... It is a late-model fuel-injection only block. There was a few carb manifolds made, as well as optispark blockoff, so it "theoretically" can be made to run via carb, but still requires an electric fuel pump and everything else... Ie, it is better to stay fuel injected with the availability of parts...

Also, if it was from a 95 Z28 it is a 2-bolt block as only a handful of 96-97 Z28s got 4-bolt blocks (along with a LT4 motor), and a bunch of corvettes got the 4-bolt blocks as well (in '96 the LT1 motors with autos all came with 2-bolt blocks I believe in the 'vettes, where-as the manuals and all the LT4 Grand Sports came with 4-bolt blocks).

And, I will add, there are plenty of LT1 motors out there putting out over 500hp with only 2-bolt mains. For forced induction and heavy nitrous most go with 4-bolt conversions, but, again, plenty of 4-bolt setups putitng out over even 1000hp... And, yes, unlike the Fords the Chevy blocks have no weak-main issues at all... (I must admit, I snickered at the power comment) ;)

If some one is interested in the internals of the LT motors the crank, rods, pistons, cam, lifters and a few small parts all fit in any of the one piece seal blocks that are set up for a roller cam. I have used many rod and pistons combos off of ebay for some of the race motors in the lower class of dirt track racing and a few in drag motors. It hard to beat the price of a set of PM rods and a set of mahala flat top pistons. These are a light weight pistons and rods matched to a stout GM crank with many of these clowns spinning these things to 65-7000 rpms and they still live. Vary easy build with a vortec block and a steel shim head gasket and a set of vortec heads with the LT roller cam or something bigger if you want. Only thing you need to do with the cam is chop off some of the pin in front. I did one of these with the GM hot cam and it made 416hp on the dyno. For me to build and sell something like that's, its a $1200. long block motor.
