So I am looking at purchasing an 88 GT convertible. Has some nice upgrades, one being a new steering rack from a SN95 car. Only problem is that the steering shaft rubs on the rack when turning. Car has equal length short headers on it. Whats the best way to prevent that rubbing? Remove header and use a ball peen hammer? Change to a different header? Leave it? Also the egr tubing melted on the header, what's all involved with doing an egr delete? Does the motor have to be out for this? Said it doesn't give a engine light, but it sounds weird because it's just blowing air out of the end of the tubing.

Do you mean the Shaft is rubbing on the header? If so you have a few options:
1) Loosen the column bolts and pull the shaft over, hold and tighten bolts.
2) Offset rack bushing work in certain instances
3) Change to a different header, although a good number have this issue.
4) extend the tube on the header to clear the shaft
5) Buy a Maximum Motorsports or like steering shaft, not only a way better design but eliminates the rag joint. They help clear headers also..
6) Dimple the header to clear - The ghetto but effective option.
7) Remove shaft and grind down (on the shaft) the area thats rubbing.

EGR delete has about the same many options lol
