Well this is pretty badass... A quick way of getting a scalable 3D model into a CAD program with an Xbox Kinect and ReconstructMe (http://reconstructme.net/)

This could of saved me a lot of time had I known about it.

Super cool!

I saw a thread on reddit this week where some dude had made a 4" tall 3d model of himself using kinect for the face.

Wow... thats pretty epic. Can you combine them? Say.. the trans/tunnel to make this usable for anything other than making pretty pictures?

you export the models into 3D software


The result can be exported to various CAD formats such as STL, OBJ, 3DS, and PLY.

I wonder how accurately it can model the surfaces?

I have a seat of SolidWorks and my plan is to eventually get a 3d scanner. I want to reverse engineer a variety of car and other machine components.

That link mentions the Asus Xtion. I'm looking into this.
