I'm a huge Datsun Z car fan and belong to a web site dedicated to engineering these cars for lots of horse power and awsome handling. There has been all kinds of engine swaps performed into the rather large engine bay of this small import, like SBC, SBF, BBF, BBC, single turbo SBC, twin turbo SBC, Nissan Skyline, Buick GN, Ford SHO, SR20DET, Mopar, ect.. But this one is pretty damn cool. We are just finding out more information about this Viper powered car, but the pictures speak for themselves. Here's the thread: (just scroll down near the bottom of the post) Click here (http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=34510&highlight=)

Pretty damn cool huh?

I give it my approval.

I like those Z cars too. I was debating between my mustang and a 240 or 260. One local guy did the "junkyard" build on his. Now he is pushing 24 psi through a 3.2 L. The last time I saw it was when he was running 5 psi, and that was decent.

Pretty cool, how much do those 240's weigh? What rear end do most z swappers use?

A '73 240Z like mine weighs in at 2380lbs (with 5/8 tank of fuel). As the years went by (up to '78), the Z cars got heavier and heavier, up to 400lbs heavier than a 240Z.

For a rear end, you can use what's called a R200 (direct bolt in). It came in Datsun/Nissan 280Z's and 280ZX's. Ratios range from 3.54 - 4.11. But then, there is the sought (sp?) after 3.36 rear end only found in the '79 280ZX 2+2. I would LOVE to have that rare gear set! There is also a swap that some have done from a Infiniti Q45, called the R230 which requires a bit of fabrication. There are a few that have swapped in a whole 'Vette rear suspension to get the large choice in gears.

You are lucky to have that many gear choices, i'm stuck with 3.90 or 4.10's in the mazda pumpkin. Right now i have 4.10 and it is too short for me, i'd kill for a bolt in 3.54 :)

Stuck with those gears in a Mazda pumkin? Yes. But are you stuck with those gears? No. Have you seen Misred? Mike used TurboII CV’s mated to a Corvette differential. You can see his web page here Misred (http://www.misred.com/)

Mike has since sold Misred to a guy I know. You should see what he has in the works now, your car with a Buick GN engine (4.1 liter) :D

TSIBred, Logged on as MY4RCDGSX:

I personally like the twin turbo q45 powered 240 they have on that page. The welds on all the titanium piping is just incredible. Makes me wish I still had my 74 260z. Nothing like learning to drive stick in a rear wheel drive 70s car that blows up with you in it :)

Yeah i know of his setup with the c4 diff, just don't have the time/skills/patience right now to fab up a cradle. There is a guy making cradles to use the cobra '03+ rear end, so i will probably eventually go with that. For a winter project i will be swapping a turbo 2 lsd and 3.90 gearing into mine as well as getting coilovers so i can run some 28" et streets. Matt, are you the guy who knows Mike Hobbs, Dan Newhouse etc?
