What to build out of this?

So I picked up a "Barn find" today. CB400F. I can go either way, resto or cafe sport.
It was parked in 1983 after developing carb issues. The guy has the side covers and original bars he just has to locate them. The carbs became corroded to the point of unrepairable. Anyone know of any carbs around or good substitutes?

They came with the Keihin piston valve type with the butterfly choke. Choke size listed from the Haynes manual shows 20mm.
I found a web page that shows the carb rack is the same on the CB350f and 400 except for jetting.

Another development that could influence how to proceed is the title VIN matches the motor and not the frame tag. I knew this when i looked it over. From what i see on the Wis DOT sight it should match the frame tag. The guy i bought from and have worked with for the last 10 years purchased the 1975 bike in 1978. It's possible whoever the previous owner was married the motor and frame together from junked bikes but was to stupid to realize they needed the frame vin to have it titled properly. Having a title is a plus but legally the frame VIN doesn't match the title.

I remember there being a discussion/thread on no title bikes but i haven't found it yet. Not sure whats next, I did get it cheap enough that parting it out would be profitable.

Regarding the frame and motor to title, that was extremely common in those days to title the serial on the motor. I had a 76 cb550 that was that way. If you do a search online you will find others that way as well. I planned to just register the bike and go on with my life the way it was. I ended up selling it to move onto a 76 cb750 though.

My vote is for making it custom. I'm putting cbr 600 f2 forks, wheels, swingarm, suspension and brakes on mine. Parts are super easy to find, and cheap. You are lucky with your bike not having an oil tank, that's my biggest obstacle!

I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be a cool bike. I love the old hondas!

I have a Keihin carb on my Arctic Cat 500 atv but it's a CVK and is 34mm. Which means it's a constant velocity carburetor. Is that what you mean by piston style? Try ebay I've found tons of Keihin carb stuff on there.

Thanks! I got lucky and scored an original super nice carb set on e-gay that only required a minor cleaning.

Did you just buff the tank or have it all repainted?

Just a polish cleaner and wax on the tank and side covers brought it back.
