Looking at acquiring an LS1 block that lost a lifter, and took out a piston and the crank reluctor. I have used replacment parts for both (crank is good, piston questionable). Any better ideas than taking it to C&S?

No. My motor is at C&S now. You could take it to Wegner but they are really far away. All the shops are swamped now building race motors. Probably won't see mine for another month.

Yeah, I'm in no hurry and will probably leave it sit until the end of the season. I'm thinking instead of camming mine I may just get this put together and motor swap it before it gets too cold to work in the garage.

Already have 853 heads milled .028, 228/222 114.5 cam, ARP bolts, trunion upgraded rockers, 70K lifters and oil pump. Should be a reliable 350whp I think? Maybe I'll try to find some 243s

Cam and exhaust you will be over 350 to the tire.

I have a set of PRC dual valve srings. good to .675 lift. Comes with seats seals and retainers. Was going to put them into the 5.3 project but I scrapped that. They have 3k miles or less on them. $200

I've got PAC 1218s in the 853s. Duals would be major overkill for my mild cam plans.

Its come to my attention that the seller is 95-1LE-Z28.

This after I unknownly contacted Nix about his SLP off of craigslist yesterday. Small world gets smaller.

Small world indeed. Lol

I guess I should be happy. When I had the GTO I couldn't run into someone else who had one when I tried to. Now I'm basically tripping over F-body owners. LOL

Overkill on spring is not a bad thing. LOL The ones you have are good to .600 lift and the cam you have is .588/.581. I'm sure the ones you have will work fine then.

True, but its not always a good thing either. Looking back at it I shoulda spent the extra $20 or whatever it was on 1518s, but oh well.

I'm curious to see what this cam puts down. Last time around I went with basically the most popular cam ever (TSP Tv2) and was very happy with the 426/417 it made in my LS2, this cam I could only find 2 or 3 threads on it, but it should perform well NA and be well mannered, and take boost well if I ever get there.

Agreed. Was just offering them up before I put them up for sale. I have a ton of crap to sell.

I hear that. Way more things to spend money on than I have money, so I'm trying to keep costs down by using as much of what I have as I can. LOL

I wouldn't be looking at this block if I didn't already have a crank and some pistons ready for it. Valves got into most of them but I think there are a couple that can be used in the bunch.

Joe, do you have a set of center bolt valve covers by any chance to go along with those springs?

No I do not but I'm sure they can be found cheap.

Well here it is torn down... I hope the lifter bore can be saved, everything else looks fine. (ignoring the smashed skirt and dinged up reluctor) Thanks Joe!

Cyl Wall looks good

Other side #7 looks good, you can see the gouge where the lifter came out, upper right

And here is my collection of LS parts... Likely going to rob that 5.3 of most of its dressing and use this block, I've already got a pair of good pistons and a crank in the basement from when I was considering making an iron 5.7

You're welcome Carl. Btw, you tore that thing apart pretty fast. It looks like for the most part, you should be able to salvage everything but the one piston and the reluctor wheel. Hopefully its an inexpensive spare motor when its all said and done.

Since im on my phone and not going back to read the prior novels to find out ill start here: So what caused that thing to blow up? Was huffing some oil too... Lots.

Tom, that's my old shortblock. Prior to the carnage it never really leaked or burned any oil. The only thing that comes to mind is that the last time I was at the track, the throttle kept getting stuck open each time I did a burnout or had the car at high RPMs. A couple of days after those track passes, my girlfriend was going to use my car and when she started it, she heard a clunking noise. I initially thought it was a rod knock but once the shop tore up the top end, they found the one broken lifter that had chewed up the skirt on the piston. I honestly don't know if the oil pump failed and bled the top end dry or the throttle sticking at high RPMs caused the lifter to collapse.

I had to get it out alone, and it was a lot easier to lift with the crank out, so I was motivated. LOL

Hopefully its an inexpensive spare motor when its all said and done.

And if its not, its a coffee table.
