Has anyone painted a motorcycle frame versus powder coating it? Does the paint withstand the hot temperatures with no issues? Long term wise what's the best way to go - I don't want to repaint it and have to tear it all the way down again in the next few years. Any input would be appreciated.

Powder coat it and be done. Itll hold up for a few years but over time it will start to look like shit and youll have to strip it off and redo it or polish it to make it look decent again

A buddy painted his inline 4 motor, block heads and all and it's holding up great in the Arizona heat. Painting a frame would be no problem at all

Should I look into a certain type of paint or special clear coat at all? I just want to make sure before I begin tearing the bike down.

I used VHT epoxy paint available at Advance Auto and similar stores. I think they make a gloss, satin, and flat black. I used satin. This shit is incredible, it coats very easily, looks awesome when finished, probably the best rattlecan paint I've ever used. 2 years and 3-4k miles later the bike frame is still flawless.

POWDER COAT the frame, it will last and keep looking the best over any paint. I used epoxy paint for my atv frame and I wish I would've had it powder coated. All of the time disassembling it down to the frame and then stripping and sanding the frame down to bare metal and now it's chipping, scratches easy and looks crappy. I did prime it using Pro-15. Although it's a atv frame and rocks and what have you contact my frame verses your motorcycles just on a paved surface. But it's worth it to have it powder coated. You might be able to save a little money and media blast the frame yourself at U Spray.

PM Bosslx, I gave him some parts to take to a place he goes to. They do a rocking good job for a real good price. I unfortunately don't remember the name.

Hy-tec in Waukesha has very good reviews on here. I was thrilled with the work they did on my bike parts.
