Some good news from this week. Ray Pampena from Pampena Motorsports in NY came to Wisconsin to finish the race gas and pump gas tunes on my car. The results easily exceeded my expectations.
We ended up with the following numbers:
Race/meth: 908.98awhp / 832.75awtq
Pump/meth: 714.21awhp / 642.70awtq
Ray and I spent a few hours at Late Model Throttle in Waukesha getting the tune done. I have to give big THANKS to Jeff from LMT for his time, tools, and assistance during various stages of our tuning process (you saved our bacon with that spare t-fitting for the meth). Couldn't have asked for a better shop to get this done. My hats also off to Tim Zimmer (twicks69) for offering his help on the dyno and for the good times at Hooters later that Monday evening. :thumbsup
I know a lot of people care about peak #’s, but, I don’t give much concern to that. What is important to me is power under curve. THIS is where the biggest improvements were made. I did some comparisons to my previous race gas dyno graphs (840-850awhp range), and this new race gas tune by Ray has 75-100awhp MORE under the ENTIRE curve at LESS boost than before, and the motor is still quiet and purring along. Some of the improvement seen are from mechanical changes I’ve made since previous dyno pulls, mainly pesky fixes and various quirks, and some coming from Ray’s tuning and knowledge with these cars -- I've attached my current 908awhp dyno versus manually overlaying (plotting) my previous dyno graph from last year, what a difference.
There's more left untapped in the setup but, eh... it's plenty good for now. I chose to call it a day when I realized there’s no point in going further unless I’m just looking for a specific number. The car is still healthy, and that’s what matters most.
I’m also really happy with these Midwest Turbo Connection Stage-4 Turbos (7659B). They spool crazy fast (full boost at 4200rpm on pump) and power is insane. They are a perfect fit for what I’m hoping to get from my car.
The pump gas tune was better than I anticipated too. My previous highest output on pump was 649awhp, and we slaughtered that yesterday at 714awhp, with even LESS boost than previously used before. Aside from a couple pesky headaches with my AEM methanol injection kit, which we learned just doesn’t like to cooperate on Mondays, we didn’t really run into any considerable issues at all. Everything went really smooth for the most part.
A couple weeks back, Josh (Turtle!) and I swapped in some new coilovers and got the suspension tuned and corner-weighted at Big Bear Tire. Very happy I was able to get that done too... Thanks Josh!
