I figured I would start another thread for updates on my engine and other things. The drama can stay in the other thread. :headbang

I can't thank Jim at Authentic enough for getting my engine back to me so we could get it in and set up before the Dells. Most of the hard stuff is done. Now to finish it up and get it running.

Took it for it first cruise today with both cars deff runs very good. Can't wait till some wide open runs, Jim did a fantastic job and is very thorough and quick with a wrench to help with either me or mark or words of advice.

I know that but I wish I knew for sure. I think its 2400 or 2600.

Prince Valiant

fwiw, I recall you saying it was around 2800-3000 rpm stall back at the time...

Given the cam and the relative gearing, a T/C b/w 2200-2400 should work fine (in theory); having trouble dialing in the mechanical secondary carb w/ too low a stall t/c?

Fuck it, 4-speed :rolf

Ricky Bobby

Who said anything about a 700R4?

The 4L80e shares some of the same internals as the TH400.

There is nothing like OD for the trips or hwy cruising! I'll never go back to steep gears and 3spd automatic. Fuk that!

I forgot to update but this happened on the way up to the dells.

Made it 55 miles and decided to shut it down instead of trying to figure out what the problem was on the side of the freeway. Started bogging down and back fired a couple times. Shut off twice on me on the freeway.
I didn't want to waste more time on the side of the road since we had to come back an hour home to get our trailblazer and then back out 2 hours to get to the show. Luckily Tony had AAA so the tow was free.

Checked it out today and I believe I figured it out and it makes sense to me. I tested out the box and the coil and both tested fine. Ohm'd out the pickup and it read open. Just have to contact MSD to figure out how to get a new one and I'll go from there.

Ricky Bobby

Hopefully it's a easy fix.

Korndogg

nevermind on the pickup. My meter was being stupid. Used my other meter and tested fine. I narrowed it down to the coil.

Primary resistance is .4 ohms which is about normal
Secondary resistance is reading infinate.

Prince Valiant

much easier fix than the pick-up...

Korndogg
05-30-2013, 04:22 PM
meh, I already had my distributor taken apart and the pickup out. Wasn't hard at all. Hardest part is taking the roll pin out.

A failing coil would make sense with my problem though.

Ricky Bobby

i have a accell super coil thats good if u want to try it out first before u buy one should work with the 6al i believe just been sittin on the shelf in the box

Moparjim
05-30-2013, 06:19 PM
Wait you have a 6AL in there? How did you test that? I have had a NUMBER of those go bad over the years and exhibit all sorts of crazy intermittant or non intermittant issues...

Korndogg

That's how I tested the box and coil. According to that test both are good. But when I ohm'd out the coil it failed on the secondary. Doesn't mean there still isn't something else wrong with the box but I figured I would replace the coil first since it's cheaper.

jbiscuit

Yep start with the coil. Then get a new box. Advance auto will match summit's price if you want to go pick one up and have it the same day. The one on highway 100 next to bw3s usually has a 6al
