Ok , my 350 in my 68 camaro convertible is becoming a problem, and its not just the engine, its the tranny to.
and since im not a chevy guy (own 6 mopar cars) always loved mopars,
im lookin for a little help finding a good deal on one, appreciate any help.
im looking for a 396, with tranny that doesnt need to be rebuilt attached or comes with the engine, just have to have a new tranny,
automatic tranny that is.
price range is... under 800 for all, dont feel like rebuilding, but if need be i will
so any help will be extremely appreciated if you can find something and get a phone number or something for me,
thanks,
Gordon

Look in the classifieds there...there are usually a ton of them. I always look in the 1970 section.

by the way, a 396 from a 69 or newer car is really a 402, so it may say 402. Chevy just kept the 396 name badge.

Why not consider a 454? Seems to be a cheaper way to make more power, more stuff out there for them and whatnot.

i would if i could find good enough deal :/
but i am thinkin keepin the engine size in the 396 range :)
the 396 is already more than enough to haul the 68 camaro all around town, burning all the rubber its got.
the 350 i have in it now (thats running like ****) makes 375 horses its pretty ****** built, built it myself... long ago :) and since im rebuildin 1 440 in my barn and am restoring 2 dodge challengers and 1 dodge charger at the moment im short on time. :/
also, whats the name of the trans that would bolt up inside the camaro?
th400? its got a 3 speed on it now, with overdrive? so i guess its a 4 speeD?
i dont mess with this car much and it pretty much sits :)
i remember someone telling me the bellhousing on chevies could bolt up to any chevy engine or something to that effect, this isnt me saying this, this is some guy i was talking to.... about a month ago,
ALSO, thanks for the info on the 402, i didnt know that, appreciate that :)

Is your Camaro white? I sold 2 396 blocks last year on eBay and 2 sets of closed chamber heads last year. The 4 sales went out to the California area, amazing what people will do when restoring a car. I think the shipping charges were about $300 per block freight.
I may still have some big block parts around, I will look.

actually a week ago i bought a white one, and started messing with that.. sorta burning some time up while painting my dodge charger 440 :/
but no my camaro is blue.
and yes, i cant beleive some people will pay the freight for an engine, thats half of what it would cost to ship a god damn car :/
if you could find anything laying around that could be useful id really appreciate that, im in Illinois, and if not, sooner or later something in a state around illinois will appear... hopefully :/
