The free Torque app is the most popular. An OBD II adapter can be bought for $17 off Amazon.

Will not work on iPhone wirelessly thru bluetooth/adapter. Something about the iOS won't let the connection occur, it works with another app or two other than torque with a tether cable.
PlX kiwi comes to mind as one iPhone solution.

I'm using this as well. I paid the few bucks for Torque Pro... totally worth it.
