Looking for some recommendations on health insurance. Currently I have COBRA coverage until August 2013. I elected not to have health - never use it, only full dental (Delta Dental) and vision (VSP) for like $40 a month.

My insurance agent sent me a quote for WPS Health/Dental which is $238/month for $500/$1000 deductible down to $2000/$4000 for $128/month.

Is that a decent provider? Price seems ok.

I'd like to do some online quotes with some of your guys' suggestions.

Thanks!

That actually sounds very reasonable w/ those kind of deductibles. If you're the kind of guy that has decent savings, maybe bump up your deductibles since your rarely utilize the insurance.

WPS is a well regarded company that generally has a fairly large network of providers...

Cool. I also had a humana quote but can't find what those rates were.

Also check with United Healthcare, their Golden Rule policy for the self employed.

Sweet that would be handy when I have a heart attack.

If you're healthy (no prescriptions, rarely need to go to the doctor) it might be worth checking the "cash price" of doctor visits at your doctor and looking into only carrying Hospitalization insurance.

Last time I paid cash at the doctor (small town doctor) and paid cash it was $90 for a blood pressure reading and a five minute conversation to get a prescription.

Lil Evo - not sure on your situation or life circumstance. But, the US Army Reserves might be a good option for you if your qualified? I'm sure active might be a lil much. But as a Reservist you can get Tricare Reserve Select. A single person is $49 a month.... no deductibles and all that other non-sense. If you have any questions PM me. Good Luck...

I'm not really familiar with WPS but I think the price is okay considering your needs. I know a lot who pays for more than that for their health coverage so yours seems reasonable. Goodluck!
