Thinking about doing the whole car with
Duplicolor rubberized under coating. So far
I have done the back bumper, and today the
trunk lid.

Probably should of tested the look with plastidip first just to see if you would even like the look of the finished product.

Not my style but to each their own...

that undercoat is going to trap water, bedliner probably would have been more effective. When I re-did the floors on my truck, everyone I spoke with skipped rubberized coatings and just used bedliner for the same purpose.

If this was done in a "trunks beat up so no care" mentality, then I think your undercoating would have been better spent on gas to find a pick and pull trunk lid in your paint code

If you would have attempted to mask the emblems off/remove, fix the dents...

...nevermind it still would have looked bad.

12-04-2012, 03:25 PM
I put Vynl down on the panel first, So it'll peel right off.
Guess I could have stretched it over the dents instead of
forming it to them.

Just expirementing. Dare to be different. It does look better
in person than in the pics.

Finding a subaru trunk lid around here is just about impossible.
Once I close on the new house and actually have a garage I can
take care of the dents then decide what I want to do with the paint.

I spayed it with armorall tire foam after I took these pics..

You are aware, of course, that other people have dented and repaired cars, yes? Did you know they actually make products designed for this?

For what you spent on undercoating, vinyl, and tire shine, you could have picked up some body filler, sandpaper, and primer, and had the trunk lid ready for paint, even without a garage.

This car is going to be taken down gravel and dirt roads, through brush
and generally hostile enviroments about once a month. Hence not repairing the
dents. The Liners was planned as more of an armor or more durable coating.
I deliver to a LineX and have spoke to the owner Jon about coating some of the car.
He's all for it, and will give me a at cost price if he can put a big ole' LineX decal
on the car.
Got a Ebay Catback that I might install today. I can't decide if I want to
leave it polished, or take it to my powder coater. Either coat it black or
a bright color like Lime Green, or something Florescent.

I also have new Rotors and pads for all 4 corners on the way, and a 3/8"
Aluminum Skid Plate to replace the Factory plastic unit up front.

From this...

I was just teasing about the mods. I may improve handling and brakes but the drive train
will remain stock. And I will keep this for quite a while. We close on our new house Jan. 15th
and I really needed to get something more practical and economical. Hell this thing should run
for at least another 100k miles.

I will get another toy in a year or two..

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t297/mike93lx/yo_geo_at_s_bw_ci2_l_zps0e3ead6e.jpg
The Geolandar A/T-S is Yokohama's On-/Off-Road All-Terrain tire developed for jeep, pickup truck and SUV drivers who want tires that combine a bold off-road attitude with a capable on-road aptitude. Geolandar A/T-S tires are designed to deliver long mileage and promote even wear while providing year-round traction, even in snow.

They are about an inch taller than what I have now, just wondering if they will rub?? I may also order a set of lift plates from primative performance,
raise it up maybe an inch. Or put spring rubbers in to stiffen the factory springs.

What do you think??

I would like to be able to do Pin Stripping and Flames on cars in my own shop one day.
Maybe when I retire from my current vocation. So I use my car for a bit of practice, no
big deal as long as it is revesable. I ordered a video and some pin Stripping supplies
and will probably be stripping all kinds of things and pissing my wife off some. I flamed out
my old grill maybe I will take some pics of that,,,....

I would like to be able to do Pin Stripping and Flames on cars in my own shop one day..

It's take a certain type of car to pull off a flame look, and then it's even a matter of personal opinion. By the time you decide to do it as a hobby(job?) it's going to be a long lost style, it already basically is.

also imo if you wanna practice painting, go find yourself scrap pieces from the junkyard and paint those.

Couple shots are of the raw paint no wet sand, and the after a 320 grit wet sand.
This is after the 320 grit wet sand.

Better???

To quible...because that's what I do:

If you are going to do a "before" and "after" to show what something looks like before a process and after the process, it strikes me as logical to put the "before" shot first and the "after" shot second....just like real life. Easier to follow that way.

I mean, it's not like the unveiling of your work should be laid out like the movie "Memento" or something....

I went over the curb at 30mph.... And the roof will be flat black like the rest off the car.

Who cares if it is totaled I don't plan on selling it...

You really suck at this internet forum posting thing don't you....If you are trying to quote me, you need to do a better job at it.

I went over the curb at 30mph.... Dude, I saw the video, you went up a flat area in the "curb" ie it was level with the road...If you were to take a real curb at 30 mph you would bend the control arm, snap a tie rod, and do some serious damage to the car. If you are trying to make your pile of fuck seem cooler by driving on a lawn that was freshly cut by a migrant Mexican worker, then you are failing big time.

Now the remark about my mom being on crack......Really? is that the best you got? I don't know if you have been living under a rock for the last 23 years or what your damage is, however Momma jokes went the way of the dodo bird when "in Living Color" went off the air....you need this:

I could be wrong but it looked like a "mountable curb". Which as the name implies, is designed to be driven over, so not exactly impressive.

Yeah I don't get why people just leave there boats sitting out, at the mercy of the elements. And when I moved to this part of the complex the designated
trailer and boat parking area was on the other side of the property.
I am going to let this paint cure for a week or two color sand it and shoot it with clear. I painted it Satin Black this time.
But hey it's been a learning experience and even some of the rude, snide, and just mean comments have been somewhat
helpful
On another note, the Cavalier we bought for my 17yr old sons B-day. Only mod he wants is speakers.... Bought it from a guy that is moving back to France

I mean, I think it's silly what he's doing...but really don't care. Actually, the more bizarre it is, the "cooler" I think it is. I mean, the thing is a piece of crap, why not have it look different, even if different is pretty bad? It's harmless....

And in a weird way, I admire the workmanship and effort...clearly a lot of thought and effort is going into this.

It's not something I'd do to a car...but then my taste in and approach to vehicles isn't exactly commonplace either.

It's not something I'd do to a car...but then my taste in and approach to vehicles isn't exactly commonplace either.

Another prime example of "to each, their own" everyone has their own personal taste is the plastdip that pnad did to his vette. Some people liked it (including myself) & some didn't. But he didn't get chastised for what he chose to do to his own car. He got some criticism but not nearly the copious amount that you've received.

Some people on this site have always been that way but a lot of it is in good fun. And then their are some people who criticize the shit out of people who do whatever it is to their car. I remember when I got pulled over and got a 10 fix it ticket for the blue fog lights I had on my car. I made a post asking for anybody's help on if it was legal and so on. Anyhow the vast majority of the responses were telling me that it was a terrible idea, it looks too shitty ricey, I'm fucking stupid for doing it, those are just a small sample. and any other insults that you could come up with. All that was dished out and I crucified for something so petty that I did to my junk by choice. I found out the hard way that indeed it was illegal, and life marches on. My point is, that a lot of people will make a shit storm if it isn't to their liking. Hell I'll be the fist one to admit if I run across a turd I saw on CL and do the same. But once people start with personal attacks and constantly name calling etc... then it's gone a bit too far.

Obviously not everyone has the same taste but the ganging up that happens from time to time typically goes too far. I've had it done to me & I've done it to others but cut him some slack It's his pile of fuck to do whatever he wants.

Now I know it will most likely take a boatload of criticism for saying all this. Whether it's a retort made publicly or privately. It's just my opinion based on all that I've seen on this site since I joined over 8 years ago. I know there are other forums out there that operate the same as BCM. However out of the handful of forums I'm on or troll this one by far is the harshest in many ways and their is typically a circle of friends on here that stick together that dole out criticism or epic proportions.

Like I said I'm guilty but too many people on here take it too far on a regular basis.

Alright, whoever is ready to criticise me for making a observation and posting it, fire away. But chances are I won't have a retort because I know it would be a lost cause.

As for my opinion of the "work" you've done to your ride, yuck. But I give you credit for your effort. I also give you a ton of credit for taking the bashing and rollin with the punches for the most part. People always say you need super thick skin to be a member on this site and it's absolutely the truth. You also need to be able to take a joke. And the most important thing to know about this site is you need to take what some say with a grain of salt.

Boo hoo! This guy got off easy as far as I'm concerned.

He can do whatever he wants to his car. If he or anyone else, including myself, creates a "look at me" thread, it's naive to think that you aren't going to get the good with the bad. Take the lame off road video for instance, there is all kinds of material there.

Nobody made any comments about his wife when he posted up what I am assuming is their wedding picture. She would have been fair game on some of the larger, global boards.

Ok so after many hours of priming, sanding, priming, sanding I have come to the conclusion maybe I am not very good at this body work thing.
But here is my final product. Still need to wet sand it, or I may shoot another coat of clear and the wet sand. Going to let it all cure for a week
or two and then see what I want to do.

The finish does have some texture to it but some wet sanding with 2000 grit takes it right out.
I plan on doing another couple coats of clear and then wet sand it..

Gregor

There is no way in hell wet sanding will take out that "bedliner" texture. At least how it looks in the photos. It looks as smooth as my concrete driveway.

And how did you spray the clear? Rattlecan? Spray can clear wont build up a enough of a mill thickness to wet sand unless you dump a dozen or so coats.

my thoughts as well. You're going to need a lot more aggressive sand paper for that to smooth out, and by the time you get it smooth, you will be down to paint.

I sanded down all the bedliner with 80 grit, primered the whole car and hit it with 120 grit, primered it again and hit it with 320 grit.
And I sprayed the paint and clear with my Wagner Power Sprayer, the finish is not as rough as the camera makes it look...

Gregor

ok the "wagner spray gun" explains the texture. Those are good for fences and not automotive applications.

I would sand it down to factory paint remove as much parts off the body and send it off to a one day sprayer like Maaco.

The texture is in the clear, I think it is because of the Humidity and Heat. It was about 95* with 90% humidity when I shot the clear.

Just went to sonic to p/u/ some dinner, boy did it go over big with the kids. One little girl wouldn't stop screaming to her mom to look at the car..

honestly, lose the shark mouth/eyes, paint it the flat grey with the rear stripes/skulls (as is there now), along with a couple black markings and skulls and bones, and it'd look halfway decent. Maybe do the 40's fighter style WWII painting/girl on the rear portion of the front fender...but small so as to keep it tasteful.

THAT might actually be unique *and* non-horrendous at the same time.

Ok, there is one thing about doing what you want to your own car, that is fine. But this is just crazy. Either you have the attention span of a 1 year old when it comes to how your car looks, or your just starving for attention from someone or something.

Your on a whole new level of troll. Meaning your doing this to show people in real life daily how ridiculous you can be, not just us feeding you on the forums..

All I'm wondering is, who pissed you off? Whats making you do this? Who are YOU trying to piss off? No one does this for the hell of it.. well maybe..
