Central Office Production Order aka get engine combos that didn't exist in regular production ticket cars.
iirc they are street legal cars, just not 50 state legal.

Its an all aluminum 5.3 with a front drove 4 liter whipple thrown on top.

I'm pretty sure theyre not street legal, they can't be registered for the street because they dont have a VIN, they have a serial number. So they are not street legal. The 5.3 is the size of the motor, and the 4.0 is the displacement of the twin screw blower on top of it.

^^^ this guy got it. its a 5.3L LSX with a 4.0L Whipple on top. its not street legal because technically its not a car, its a part. the vin is labeled as COPO#XX(car number) 2012 for this model year cars.

COPO's werent rare and still arent rare today, in the true sence of the term anyway. it was a few freaks that were allowed to be built that went on to be the rare ones. All police spec (9C1), taxi's, work trucks with odd colors etc are all forms of COPO offerings. Today like GM fleet truck purchases are also COPO scenarios. It was in the mid 60's where they new how to play the system to get odd ball combos thru on cars. The vin tags usually had an "xx" for the paint code too on COPO cars. This car kinda pays ommage to the name but really isnt a true copo by definition though. primarily because the orginals were produced to be nothing but a drag race car, but WERE street legal with vins. In most cases the COPO's turned into stuff like yenko SYC's or Berger's or Nickey's etc etc.

Here is an article on a '68 COPO 9737 my dad bought new that puts a face on the '9737' label in the above copo info link. This car was ordered thru yenko, dealer traded any thats how my dad bought it.
