What do you LT1 guys do for tuning? Picked up a 95 Camaro roller that I'm going to put a bored and stroked 383 LT1 and T56 into, want to see what my local options are for getting it tuned when it's done in the spring.

Pretty sure Tom can do LT1's and also I think Ron from clocks off racing does them too.

Sounds familiar.

While I can't personally as I gave up the software along time ago for 94-95's. WBD can though thru one of the other tuners who has the ability and is really really sharp with the older stuff like that. Probably pays to send the PCM out now to madtuner (ion) now in il to get the 2 chips socketed cuz it happens at least once to every lt1 that a PCM gets bricked during a flash and wipes out 1 of the two chips depending on where it freezes. Contrary to popular belief one can make an lt1 run really nice on a stock PCM, I learned a ton working on my own 96 car, and it's true they aren't as big of boat anchors as everyone leads on when it's in the right hands.

I don't think he's necessarily married to the factory PCM...

^^^most people are not going to spend the money on aftermarket or the 24x LS PCM conversation. Just sayin'

Yeah, looking at whats out there I didn't see anything else cost effective either. I know dick about LT1, so it would probably be in my best interest to stfu. lol

Though I could source a 24x LS type PCM/harness for stupid cheap....

I also no longer do much on the old style PCM,as Tom stated, too troublesome when one decides to lock up during a flash. Plan for the worst and have a stack of them ready. lol

Any reason I can't use a 96 PCM on my 95 engine? Not sure exactly what the differences were from 95 to 96, other than OBD2. Since I have yet to buy a PCM and harness, my options are still open, limited only by what wil or will not plug into my existing 95 parts.

the 96 stuff will look for a crank sensor, which a 95 does not have. you would need to fnd a reluctor wheel and timing chain cover from a 96. the knock sensors also have a different resistance.

Its about 2k minimum to get the basics for this kit.

The OBDII 96 model year PCM will plug and play, but there are the things that ron mentioned above that will need to change. Also the Jet dynamic spectrum software can be then used to tune it, basically the old tuner cat stuff only for obdII cars. However im not cetain when you go backwards how it works? My car had a 95 impala PCM in itwhen i got it, the tach on the dash didnt work then though. Obviously i switched to a proper OBDII 96 pcm for it since and tune with the jet software.

This is a great site for wiring info to compare the 95 to 96 pin outs: http://shbox.com/1/schematics_wiring.html

the 94-95 pcm works on a OBD2 deal with a resistor on the board (knock sensor circuit),and there is also a tach signal splitter deal that gets soldered on the board. without the signal adapter, the tach reads double from what I remember.
I miss that stuff, but then again not so much.

I'll likely be doing a 96 PCM swap. Sounds pretty straightforward. Thanks guys.

Change of plans. I ended up picking up a built 95 Z28 with a blown trans. It's got a pretty big cam, heads, nitrous and a mail order tune. It runs eyewateringly rich, definitely needs to be dialed in. I'll be giving West Bend Dyno a call in the next week or so to get it tuned. Should I plan on picking up a spare PCM just in case?

Edit: the mail order tune was done by the guy Tom mentioned (ion), so should I assume this PCM has already been socketed and is safe?

I have a few 94-95 pcms on the shelf if you need one.

Just split the PCM housing and take a look at the two main chips, they are about 1" x 1" and if they are socketed, they fit into a black recepticle thats soldered to the board if its been socketed, of not the chips will be just right on the board.

Just need to make sure when its being flashed a quality AKM cable is being used and a battery charger is on the battery everytime its being flashed. This is normal practice when I or anyone else does work on LT1 pcm's at WBD. Even with the OBDII stuff like mine you can fry them.
