Since I've taken up WAAAY too much of the other threads, figure might as well make my own so others can hijack mine, haha.

Anyways, traded my 1251 servo in for a 1256 savox. Get the higher torque, although its slower. One of those things that maybe it evens out with the larger tires of a shortcourse trck.

So anyways, spent all day deciding what to do, DESC410v2 or the Losi SCTE. Probably heading towards the SCTE as local parts support is there, it accepts the regular stick style lipos where the Durango can only do the saddle packs which limits my options and cost more.

The cost of being "different" just wasn't worth it to me, especially with the truck being $100 more even after the tower discount on the durango.

I did buy the body tonight from Tony at Hobbytown

I'm not a Toyota guy in real life, but just fell in love with body

My radio did come in today as well. Just need that one final decision on the truck and then decide on the esc/motor combo and get to some practice/racing next week.

Haha. Hopefully you caught it before your girl did!

Coop - I'm painting it just like the picture but in the Mustang blue your car is... just to honor the great Coop!

As for the body, I was also looking at the regular flo-tek body as well since I like the color scheme

I recomend viper for a esc and motor! I love the ease of use, cooler running set up, and the warranty is fantastic! Good luck with the research!

did you do the copperhead R sensorless or did you do the VTX10 or something along that product line sensored? Was looking at the MMP Race SCT setup with the 3800kv 1410 motor. For a 4x4 has that worked out? I don't think I could control an RX8/Pro4 combo, haha at this point.

Also, what is the "in" cheap batteries that are available local US? I just have seen too many horror stories with the turnigy shipping, but maybe thats if it was coming out of HK. There are a couple batteries available that fit my needs that are in the US warehouse, but for some reason I can't pull the trigger without worrying.

I also saw ProMatch (i did order two of those since it seemed to be middle of the road according to the bigsquidrc reviews). I know those Gen Ace's everyone raves about, but coming out of HK I believe as well, just has me worried on wait times and proper shipping choice.

Thanks again!

I us venom batteries because they have a lifetime warranty or I would recomend thunder power.

And esc I use the vtx in my buggy and now my 2wd sc. I was plannng on useing the vtx10r with a 4.5 550 viper sensored motor but Now I may get the copperhead system. It isn't sensored but from what I have seen and heard from guys at the track is you don't have any glitching issues. And it is half the price. about $150.

Thats the problem with the "name" batteries. I don't mind having 2-3 of those for the RACE, but for practice it sucks needing such a high mah and C rating to support the draw from these big motors and heavy 4x4's and having to run a $120 battery

One thing I do see people doing is a Mamba Max Pro w/ the SC411 tenshock motor. That would be right around $200. The RX8/Tenshock motor combo would be 265-270ish

SCTE w/ TLR Tuning Kit it is... Support your LHS! haha. Its sitting in the trunk right now waiting for work to end. Its hard trying to split up purchases between Trackside and HobbyTown with as much as Tony has helped all of us at HT

Not gonna go wild with it cause the 22SCT is coming out in a couple weeks and I knew I was gonna end up with some sort of 2WD stock class vehicle, be it a buggy or a SCT.

Trying to find design ideas for paint and go from there. Should be a good weekend with the wifey gone at work, I can spend the whole time playing with this thing.

PS - who was it that did the body painting? was it you LEWETHETIGER73 ?

I never drove one. I think I might have played with Tony's for a lap or two way back, but other than that nothing more than my Havok SC Pro 7.5T in the XXX-SCT on the barcodes. That was alot of fun, haha.

I bought two of the promatch 6000mah 60c and I bought two of the Turnigy Nano-Tech 6600 mah 65c-135c batteries. They are supposedly out of the USA warehouse so we'll see what happens. I already have a tracking number through USPS for them so hope its all good. Those were dirt cheap to try as well.

I'll buy two decent packs for racing later once I get the setup right. Got $30 in coupons from Hobby Town after picking up the big stuff, so will probably pick up an RX8 ESC with the discount

LEWETHETIGER73

Just be sure to buy roar certified packs or at the very lease a hard case.

I have two 5000 Mah soft cased lipo's if any one want to buy them :) the ones i ordered incorrectly. They'll take them back but its only instore credit and i don't need any more packs yet. :goof to jack your thread again

Was cool seeing everyone last night even if it was for just a bit.

I can say I'm happy with both the purchasing experiences through promatch and through hobby king. I haven't USED the batteries, just saying that my buying experience went well with both tracking information and both parts arrived today, earlier than inspected. One from Washington and one from Arizona. USPS worked out well.

Both state "ROAR APPROVED" on them so I guess thats a good thing too(sorry, only the Pro Match ones do)

Larry pointed your station out behind him. I was the guy that was talking to him that I think you had to slip by cause I was in the way of the aisle, haha.

That's awesome to hear though. Definitely got me pumped to get out racing. Just in time for downtime and a track change! haha. I really like how the track looks though now so hopefully they'll keep it something like that.

My toy... All TLR'd and now to pick a motor.

nice!!!

there was a BIG outdoor event today, so nice choice picking today to practice, haha.

I got my first body painted. The "stock" body. A number of errors. Overspray getting into areas that I didn't mask well enough, not letting paint dry long enough before taping off another area. I did a mix of the liquid mask as well as taping off. I ended up giving up early on the liquid mask. I read that it needs 3 coats. Watched videos. Apparently I didn't do a thick enough coat, or I needed more coats for this specific brand like some others had recommended. Luckily I haven't started on the second body and can layer up some more on the liquid mask. Have 5 coats on it right now. I should have reversed the colors as its a very dark body, but atleast I know for the future. So I have a good bash/practice body. Hated the stock body anyways

Alright, so here are some shots... You can see the errors and smudges

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/20120811_235342.jpg

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/20120811_235349.jpg

The roll bar area was kinda cool, still lots of smudges and uneven cuts

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/20120811_235359.jpg

And the finished product. Just noticed that I painted the same sides of the number plates, so one side is green and the other side is the charcoal metallic backing, haha.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i209/z28kid98/20120812_002642.jpg

Looks ok. Like I said, learning experience since this was the first time I ever painted a body. All spray cans. Got it all over my hands, haha. Wear some gloves people!

That is a really slick design! I love it! But you gotta practice somehow. What did you decide on the 4x4?

Crawlin
08-12-2012, 08:10 AM
I bought the RX8 and bought a Tenshock SC411 4600 since it has some decent reviews. I'm thinking of buying the Copperhead setup just to test the difference. Just waiting on the motor right now. So the losi is all ready to go minus motor at this point.

The colors are the Black Metallic, then a thin charcoal metallic stripe, then the white, then lime ice, then silver, then the charcoal metallic at the back. So the black is only up front. The pictures make it look better than it actually is, but I'm happy for first try.

Do you guys run indoor or outdoor? If you want you can set up a track at my storage place in Waukesha. It's all reground asphalt that has been rolled and rolled traffic bond. Just give me a call and I can get you all set up. Could have a BCM race event. I have plenty of track building materials.

does your servo "buzz" ? soon as I flip on the power switch it buzzes. it still moves fine and everything. can't tell if its the glitching issue or if its something else

Crawlin

talked to Ken at Trackside and he said it was normal. Just because its a digital servo. All brands would do it he said if he were to swap it with a different one.

Anyone going up tonight? I just need to find some pinion gears for this thing and I should be good

First heat of qualifying - Scared and excited at the same time. Never did it before in a real race situation and had no idea on truck setup. Just pretty much stock. Finished last in the heat of 6 trucks total in the 4x4 class. Had gained a couple spots but crashed a couple times. I started last so I didn't feel bad.

Second heat of qualifying - had a ton of fun in the first round so felt more comfortable. I started last again, but finished 4th

A-Main - Only 6 trucks so "making the A-main" wasn't a big deal. Started last. Finished second! Felt really good about my first time out there. I wasn't the fastest, but I made some quick laps but need to not crash.

Was a blast, saw LEWE/Larry there working on his project. Will definitely be headed back next Tuesday and any friday races. ALOT of people came up to ask if I needed anything. All had positive things to say to help me. They knew it was my first try so they all tried to help. Was a very fun atmosphere there.

Felt really good considering I had stock tires/shock oil/diff grease/etc... Basically all stock suspension except some chassis stiffening.

The Short Course Stock Class had a good number of people. Very fast racers in that one. Had 3 mains and the last one was a very good race

lilws6

08-15-2012, 07:18 AM
damn didn't even know you were there. I shoulda looked for your truck better. 2WD stock class was looking awesome!

One of the guys with the same truck was saying that the thick diff grease is what is causing the pushing in the corners. The last run I switched to a really light front sway bar hoping it would roll over more in the turns. Guess I just need to get some things switched up and try again, haha
