Well figured since i've made one race and now i'll be hooked on this offroad sc racing i'de make a build thread of my sc10 since when i raced it it was bone stock. Couldn't hook the tires no matter what i tried. I ordered some proline tires a new body since mines been bashed to hell. ordered some 2 lipo batteries to catch up with the times :goof I'm running a havoc spec brushless system 17.5 stock. I'll need a new servo seems its not quick enough for what i want so i'll be upgrading that soon i think.
Started with this.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k299/lilws6/RC%20cars/sc101.jpg
got new wheels with same stock tires(don't hook at all :( )
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k299/lilws6/RC%20cars/sc10-1.jpg
Today i boiled the silver wheels to unglue the tires. stripped the silver paint mostly off (became impatient) and dyed them green to match what i want to do to the new body.

Nice, what kind of tires you going with? I run rebars which I really like for the great side bite into turns, and I know a lot of people prefer barcodes. But I am not a fan of those personally. And as far as the servo goes, I have a new spektrum metal gear hi torq servo for sale. $50 but I don't remember the part number off hand. I think it is the 6040. In any case I will have it at the track this friday. You going?

i'm hoping my stuff comes in by then. i think i ordered holeshot v2 they look different then the holeshots i used to remember and i like you don't like the barcodes. seems like everyones running them so i wanted to try something new. If all my stuff gets here by friday i want to give the servo a shot yet witht he new tires see if its just not the tires sliding causing the slow reaction or the servo. i know i have a metal gear in it. Just as of last friday it felt sluggish

ok so just incase i don't get my tires by friday which i don't think will be a problem. But as a back up set i took my black wheel stockers and made them well more interesting. they feel like they have loads more grip but i guess i won't know until they hit the clay may have to hit up a practice day to see how they do. Again they are intended as a back up set of tires :goof

compared to what they used to be

Also you should try to clean the tires with simple green and water mix. Let dry and then spray with motor spray.

ive done the simple green but not motor spray

It works pretty good on my rebars. But it also has thinner lugs

I have run rebars, beams and barcodes on my 2wd sc10 all worked good. Will have to see how the new jconcepts 3d's will do at trackside maybe ill try them too.

Tires and body came today. Got the tires glued and the body painted and a few decals on. I seem to have misplaced my reamer so the mounting and flotec fins may have to wait until anouther time might just run the stock body this friday. Lipo's should show up tomarrow and i should be ready to go :) these tire just look and feel so sticky is that a good thing?

Looks like it's really coming together! You can just use my reamer at the track on friday. I'll probably be at the end of the row towards a ceiling fan. My vehicle colors are yellow, green, pink and I have an orange and white remote. Just stop by.

I might just leave it this week. I dunno lol we'll see but so far just seeing these tires I like them a lot

what class you runnin in?

LEWETHETIGER73
07-26-2012, 08:30 PM
Right now I am only running stock buggy. Seeing as how my shortcourse truck has been converted to drag car. For now. Otherwise I run stock sc, 4x4 sc, and stock buggy

Truck looks really nice! Makes me want another one now that I'm moving to a house thats by Watertown Plank and 124th. So right down the street. ahaha

random Q - what buggy are you running? do you see more of the B4.1's, TLR22's, Durango's, or Kyosho's at Trackside? I'm assuming ALOT of B4's since it seems the SC10's dominate the 2wd SC last time I was there

lilws6
07-27-2012, 10:24 PM
guy i work with is running a blitz thats walking me and keeping up with the fast guys/gals at the track. I was watching buggies today and really starting to want one. there quick light and running stock motors lol. I thought i had my truck dialed tonight and it didn't pay off just got loose maybe too much throttle. Might swing down sunday for some track practice get some more wheel time with the lipo's good god do those make a difference.

LEWETHETIGER73
07-27-2012, 10:35 PM
Right now the buggy to get is the tlr22. Thats what I run and about 85% of the people run them.

With track time today i got the suspension where i think i need it. I've got to work on some steering play. Truck holds to the right or left after turns. noticed alot of play in the steering rack. Going to try anouther set of tires when they show up this week as well. Finally finished the flo-tec body. alot of holes to cut out hopefully this will help with my parachuting ;)

Chris as far as buggies go I'd get the TLR 22 by far the most popular right now. B4.1 Worlds would be my second choice which is also very good.

what servo do you run? I have the AVID steering bellcrank in my SC10 ......AWESOME!! I recommend it for sure

lilws6
07-29-2012, 10:06 PM
right now its a hitech i had laying around ordered a new savox the other day. i was looking at the avid bellcrank right after i got the integy one ordered :( both are aluminum so it shouldn't be too much difference. but i would have like the way the avid one looks better than the integy

1fast2litre
07-30-2012, 06:45 AM
Integy should work well also. I use the savox 1258 in mine love it!

thats the part that sucks, is I know the TLR is good, I know parts are plentiful at Trackside too from when I had my xxx-sct. I was really disappointed to see(but totally understand their position) that Trackside got rid of all of their durango parts and kits. I just like to be different and really want a DEX-210 as well as the new DESC-410v2. But man are there some horror stories with those things on rctech.net. I had always read good things about those buggies in the past and thought they were the "cadillac" where TLR and Associated were the Chevy vs. Ford

Such a hard decision.

LEWETHETIGER73
07-30-2012, 05:24 PM
I would stay far far away from anything integy has ever made or will make. They copy other parts and use inferior materials with an almost guarunteed fail

lilws6
07-30-2012, 06:38 PM
well like i saidi had already hit the send button before i ran across the avid bellcrank which i kinda wish i would have ordered instead oh well we'll see how it holds up the plastic one is starting to fail now. so much play and the servo saver isn't holding tight so i'm loosing steering and its driving me nuts. The guy i work with tried to drive it to feel how my suspension was doing and he says to me the suspension looks great but here have your truck back i can't drive that thing i don't know how you drive it that way. :goof his words almost exactly.

wheels came today more dye and the color i was looking for out of the other wheels :) yay need to glue them today and i should be all set for friday again since none of my other stuff will be here this week :(

servo showed up today along with my hex drivers. getting really old changing stuff around with factory L wrenches lol Servo won't go in this week ive got the truck dialed pretty close last sunday i don't want to change it too much until i have to pull it apart for the steering rack any way. I can drive it the way it is kind of :goof

which servo did you end up getting? the 1258?

trying to get some time to head out like I said. Moving in the A.M. to a house down the street and then I'll swing by your pit and say whats up tomorrow if I can sneak away.

lilws6
08-03-2012, 06:46 AM
yea its a 1258 np shouldn't be too hard to spot the green machine

lilws6
08-03-2012, 11:11 PM
Horrible night for me. I tried the new tires theyre just too new should have waited and left the holeshots on. the truck was good but as i got more frustrated i drove worse. 3rd to last in the A main wasn't bad for me i guess. But i am getting tired of trying to give the fast guys space just to have them clip me and spin me around. So over all it was a learnign curve on the new tires and i need to start driving more defensively instead of passively

Got new shoes. Jconcept 3d's on DE wheels. Forgot my magic recipe for the color wheels I liked and got a darker green again. Oh well just need to clean the tires up and glue them tomorrow.

i love those tires! my pressure points worked great compared to the stockers so hopefully those work some magic for you as well.

one thing I did notice, is your car hopped around alot compared to those faster guys. it isn't the driving style, but it just looked like the car had too much spring or something. every little bump made your truck rebound and look like it was a vibrating guitar string bouncing up and down, haha.

not that i'm knowledgeable in this stuff, so only take that observation for what its worth.

lilws6
08-20-2012, 10:01 PM
It's weird yea it's been driving better bouncy lol I need to rebuild the shocks with heavier oil. Then go back down a spring and retest. Haven't had time to mess with it yet :(

Finally decided to retire my very old novak ss 17.5 motor. I didn't get it before the race last night which i wasn't to worried i would put it in today after work.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k299/lilws6/RC%20cars/20120825_184523.jpg
Sweet i pull it out had to flip my ESC around so the sensor wire would reach got it all wired up i'm getting jacked up :)
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k299/lilws6/RC%20cars/20120825_191349.jpg
get the new gears in and go to turn it on for a test run. Nothing.... WTF? the esc is sequentially flashing all the lights. Ok what the heck does that mean. Dig out the manual and find nothing in it? hmm google. found one hit on rctech someone was running a havac 2s and having same issue a year ago. Turns out what i think to be the speed control is only programed for novak motors :'( NOOOOOO Now what do i do? I like my novak's ive grown into them and they seem to be natural for me to tune now which i don't bother with usually any way i drive with my hands not the esc. So what do i do? Do i trade it in to novak and get a newer havok pro sc or do i start over and find something new i have no idea what i should do because my ss motor is under powered compared to almost everyone in the stock sc class. Sure i made the a main last night but i did that by driving now i want a motor to keep up. Sorry for my ranting i was all kinds of jacked and then slapped in the face :(

That sucks man. Sorry to hear that and suprised thats how it is. I would even ask scotty at trackside about it and see whT he says in regards to what you found out. Its hard to think that you cant run anything else.

Question thouh... Do you have reverse disabled on the esc? If so try switching the direction on the esc. My tekin rx8 and tenshock411 motor was actually reverse direction in standard settings so with reverse disabled in my programming it didnt work at all.

Just something to try

LEWETHETIGER73

Is that a 3.5? Can your esc handle down to a 3.5?

LEWETHETIGER73
08-26-2012, 08:02 PM
I love the Viper set up. 17.5 vtx10 and pro gauge is around $200!! SUPER SMOOTH and Tons of power to keep up!

lilws6
08-26-2012, 10:29 PM
17.5 still my esc could not handle a 3.5 lol but from what ive gathered the older brushless speed controls like the one i have were wired for just novak sensored motors. They can't handle anything else so i've ordered a new edge because it was cheaper than going thru novaks trade in program and since my esc and motor still work i'll sell the setup to recoupe some of the cost :) bright side and bad all in one. The edge is suposed to handle roar legal senor motors so we'll see i'll be all kinds of furious if it doesn't work with the new trinity

lilws6
08-26-2012, 10:31 PM
Oh and chris i cant do anything with the speed control once its turned on. The first thing it does it goes straight to the sequential blinking whether i hold the button on the esc or not nothing changes. really makes me mad i did email novak to comfirm this but either way i'll sell this setup to try and recoupe for what i have into this new setup

lilws6
08-29-2012, 11:50 PM
Sweet my new edge 2s came today. Cut the tamiya plug of soldered my deans on. Soldered on motor wires and did the one touch setup. Went just fine turned off the esc for a couple sec. Turned back on light throttle to make sure it worked and the motor spun maybe 5 revolutions and stopped. The led's indicate it should work. Full throttle the green light lights up full brake it blinks like it should but if you hold any throttle for a couple sec. It trips the code for rotor lock. Tried a different motor to same result. Put both motors in my buggy they work just fine. Trouble never ends lol I may have to change away from novak if I can get this right soon!

Acually with the aluminum pieces i wouldn't doubt its a bit heavier. These are my junk tires just had them on there to tune the suspension.
