View Full Version : New Exhaust on my Swapped RX7

I recently had Clint Kilpatrick (Kilpatrick Engines and Transmissions) build my new exhaust on the RX7. It's completely 2.5" mandrel bent with a custom x-pipe.
The band clamps I had him put in so I can easily remove the differential cradle from the car without having to drop the entire exhaust. (The RX7 TII diff is strong but not as strong as I need it)

I previously had 2" duals straight back from the headers to the mufflers with no crossover/x-pipe/h-pipe and non-mandrel bent. (down to 1.5" or less in areas)
It was severely lacking and pretty much choking off the motor. I have an old school SBC 383 Stroker. (Kilpatrick did all the machine work to stroke the block and built the vortec heads etc...)

Clint did a great job and I'm extremely happy with the job. I feel like I have a new car. LOL!

It's amazing how much a good exhaust will wake up a motor! Throttle response is instantaneous and I'm constantly hitting the rev limiter now. (Good thing I put in the new MSD 6AL)

(Not sure why the YouTube doesn't embed but the link is at the end of what it sounds like)

looks sharp! No band clamps before the x-pipe in case you need to drop the trans?

I would just drop from the collectors back to the band clamps then. I've had the diff in and out probably 6 times either for replacement or doing upgrades to the cradle. It just made more sense that way.
I tear this car apart almost every Winter (except last Winter) Whenever I pull the motor I usually replace the disk and TO bearing. Not that they're bad but if I have it that far apart it's just easier to deal with.

I edited your post. When you want to do a youtube video used the advanced feature. Then you click the youtube button and copy in the section in youtube from between the = and the &

Thanks.
I'm not sure how I missed the "Go Advanced" feature. I'll make sure to do that next time.

Holy hell! I thought the point of a "muffler" was to muffle the noise at least a little!

Sounds great!

Thanks for the nice comments guys.
I thought the car was nice before but something was always lacking. I knew the exhaust was not great and had wanted to replace it for some time.

I never thought an exhaust could make so much difference! It's night and day difference! Clint did a great job!
The x-pipe got rid of the drone that I had inside the car. Believe it or not it's actually quieter inside. I can hear the radio now. LOL
My butt dyno says it's got a lot more power but I'll find out how much more when I get it to LMT for a dyno run.

A lot of sound out of a little car :)

Looking forward to hearing it in person. Video never does exhaust any justice. Is that aluminimized steal or stainless?

As you well know. :)

It's aluminized....alumininmised....steel with aluminum. LOL. Stainless would have cost way more and for my car the extra cost over gain would have been negligible.
I don't drive it in inclement weather unless getting caught in it. Regarding storage, If I'm not rebuilding it then it gets run every other week or so to prevent too much moisture.

I want to see and hear your car soon ;)

I just realized that the advanced feature buttons don't show up in Black Stealth mode. I switched to Funky Fresh and now I can see the buttons.

Hey Andy, is it just me that has this problem? I do use Google Chrome 99%.

Black Stealth is a busted template. It's missing a lot of features. (It was free).
Hopefully the 4.2 release is better. I just need to upgrade the forum.
