AAIA helps obtain passage of Wisconsin bill ending refrigerant ban (http://www.tirebusiness.com/subscriber/headlines2.phtml?cat=1&id=1333542115)

This might be old news to some of you that are in the business.

Yep, I was pretty surprised when I walked into Advance Auto last week and saw some big signs saying "We now stock R134A"

Still need a license to buy a 30 lbs can but yeah April 1 was the repeal and we have had it in stock since that day.

Another thing that our great Governor Walker has done since getting into office.

I didn't hear of this...have a couple cans of R-134a from my last IL trip but good to know. I assume the ban will be permanently lifted this time, not like in 2006 when it was temporary only.

Are we all going to die now? Why haven't we had it before? No CC in IL but you could get refrigerant?

How do those self charging cans work?

I have a dozen cans and the "gun nozzle" thinger to charge your system. But like any refrigeration system, you are only masking the problem by adding refrigerant. Most likely you have a leak you need to identify. Then you have vacuum down the whole system, and then fill with refrigerant. Pressures on the low and high side should be measured. "Superheat" needs to be obtained to be an effective cooling system.

Superheat measurement is the only completely accurate way to determine if an airconditioning system is charged with the exactly correct amount of refrigerant and is operating at peak efficiency.

The reason it was banned in the first place is because the R134a was truly just going into the atmosphere because no one was fixing the problem.
