I have been out of the automotive world for about 3 years now and I think its time to get back in. I am leaning towards a red or black 87-93 5 speed fox body in the $4k-$7k range. I have found one or two forms for info and classifieds. Anything specific I should know or be looking for? Any good places to look for info or classifieds?

Floorboards (rust), torque boxes (bad welds, rust, strain), strut towers (rust), rear hatch (rust), not wanting to go into 3rd gear under hard accell (bad syncro).....probably missing something but that is a start

You came to the right place, lot of serious fox body guys on here. Search for a thread I posted awhile back when my sons friend was looking for one...

Rust. Fucking rust everywhere. Where the strut towers come down into the frame rails, the front frame rails fore and aft of the strut towers, rust in the floors (seam where the floor meets the firewall,) rust around the door hinges, rear wheel arches, rear frame extensions where the bumper mounts, core support rockers, in front of and behind the read wheels, bottom edges of the doors, bottom of the trunk or hatch. Pretty much rust everywhere but the hood and roof. Oh, and if you end up looking at a four eye, look for rust in the roof and hood. Look for tears/stress/repairs in the torque boxes, shifting issues in manuals, no overdrive in auto's. Broken/leaning drivers seat backs. Converting a clean 4cyl is always an option, but look into it before running out and buying one; it is a little more involved than you would think and a few issues can be a can of worms when doing it.

Thanks for the heads up rust is a deal breaker for me. I'm kind of planing on going down south to get one without rust.

Watch out for flood cars.

Also the hatch on the corners and inner lips, also look on the rear quarters above the windows for crinkles in metal from twisting.

An unmolested mass air car (89-93, some 88's had mass air if they're a California car).

Contrary to popular belief, they're still out there.

You can convert a Speed Density over to mass air for about 180 if you know where to look....I wouldnt over look a really clean 86 4 eyed car.

$180? Is that including the computer, maf, harness, tune, and labor? I think your pricing might be a little off.

The OP said 87-93. Unless the car is really clean and a good deal, I would just look for a factory MAF car.

a9l computer, 100 bucks off of MMA
Wireing Harness, $35 bucks from Year One
MAF $50 off of MMA (and a member on here)

correction 185....you dont need a tune unless the car has some kind of FI.

I did it on my 88. Not that hard of a conversion.

Ok, obviously you dont agree.....tell me where I am incorrect, but please keep in mind that I did this very conversion on my 88 Mustang, a Wisconsin car all of its life till I sold it, back in 07. The only reason why I had it tuned is because I wanted to see what the HP of the car was at that point, not because the a9l couldnt handle the demands of a stock head and cam car.

Oh and as far as labor.....well if I can do it.......and do it right......

Also look out for the shocktower welds as said. Looked at one a month ago and the guy JB welded it and painted over the top. He did a clean JB weld job but not clean enough. It was a 800 dollar shitbox though.

I never said that I had that Irish. Oh and because you seem to think the way to gain your "status" back with people is to try to make me look like a fool, here is a little bit of your medicine:

Now what is that little black thing on the cai? looks to me like a Mass Air Meter....mmmmm on an 88 Mustang that was a Wisconsin car....and holy shit, I bet you I can dig up a pic of the car when it was still speed density....

Quit while you are behind....

No I never said that I had an Escort Cosworth in real life...I may of said that there was a time that I wanted to make an escort gt into something like a Cosworth, possibly, however I never said that I had one. Well unless we are talking about in a video game, and if that is the case I also have a lamborgini and a R34 Skyline....Open your eyes and ears and read/ listen to what is being said insteoad only half of what it is said.....

and for the record, I hardly consider beating someone by a bumper at the line owning someone at the track......especially when you got beat the previous race by that same car

Troll? No, the only troll here is someone who crys that life is unfair, leaves the site and says they are never comming back, and POOF! back again faster than a case of herpies.

If you are trying to call me a liar in not so many words, you need to take a long hard look at your self.

Butthurt are we? Let me know how that supercharger works out for you... ;)

Waver
04-28-2012, 03:21 PM
Butthurt? Not in the least. When I get a supercharger I will let you know how I like it. I just lowered my car, put on bigger brakes, and will be having the new Billitt steel flywheel installed on my car in a few weeks, so with my vacation and my wedding coming up, a supercharger is a little off.

Let me know if you need any assistance with the wiring on your car, I have some schematics for both the FOx body and the SN95 that should help you integrate that dash with your engine.

Not sure I'd call it a "roller"...but never the less is legit. Friend of mine owns the car. Great start for someone wanting to build a race/grudge car. Couldn't get the cage installed in a car for that price.
