I have a mini system by yamaha, I like everything but the sub.

Main question is that there is one INPUT cable going from my receiver to sub and that's it. No speaker 2-wire nothing...

To upgrade what are my options as I'm guessing this sub is Low Buck with no thrills, could I hook something like this up ?

More less an example...

One input - rca style plug?

Then you can use any powered sub.

you can use the example you will just need a spliter ( 2 wire to one ) i have been doing this same research and finally ended up going with 2 subs cause of the layout of the room. i went with two polk psw10 their low price and sound great paid 90 each shipped. depending on what you are looking to spend there are all kinds of options

Correct, just one plug going from my receiver to my powered sub....

The nicer powered subs I'm seeing have quadruple the jacks so I thought they were out of my range...

Very nice, but I'm keeping it under $100, that sony I linked would be PLENTY for my space...

Look to see if it's an LFE port on the back of your HTIB system. If it is, many powered subwoofers like this. Cheaper systems have just have an RCA for a subwoofer and may have a "bass management system" to send the lower frequencies to the sub (so they can be cheap on the speakers). Nicer systems have LFE and a bass management system, and a port for subwoofers.

Cool, I thought that may have been the case but I thought I would offer. Good luck finding something.

Maybe you can talk that guy down, I would definitely choose that over the sony.

I was using a Polk PSW350 for some years and did like it. Seems like a good buy for the money.

Mines been just sitting for about a year so I'll let it go for less than that PSW10 if you decide that you're interested in a Polk.
