Has anyone seen this yet?

Looks like the next Neon? The multiair thing certainly sounds interesting. So there's no throttle body and the intake valves are controlled by the computer?

Damn, even the SE sounds pretty awesome. I wonder what pricing will be like. I should be in the market for a new car about mid 2013...

Old news, the Multi Air has been in Fiats for years.

Its not a Neon its a completely new platform based on Fiat/Alfa.

More info discussed here:

I seen it in person at the Detroit Auto Show and was pretty impressed with it. It's a completely new platform then the Neon, but it is meant to be a direct replacement for it, unlike the Caliber.

Fiatsler is still changing their long-term plans seemingly monthly...so the info actually changes pretty quick. It's not just a "neon replacement" in a sense since it's also meant to replace (in part) the much unloved avenger. It's a "large" compact, that just bumps up against the midsize catagorization/size class. Dodge goes from on again to off again in terms of if they'll have an actual midsize replacement...last I heard, it was a "no" with the dart filling the role along with a midsize fwd derived CUV also helping to replace the avenger.

But some rumors related to the car:

-AWD is certainly a possibility for the platform, since the Compass/Patriot replacement will be built on the same chasis. There are reports of mules running around with 2.4/AWD and the trans mentioned in the next heading as it's powerplant.

-ZF engineered 9 speed auto will replace the current six-speed auto sourced from aisin in the next year or two.

myself, more interested in CUV derivatives of the car...ie the jeep versions that will soon come out. There are reports that they're trying for 40mpg hwy using the larger 2.4 and nine speed combo, which coupled with AWD might knock it down a mpg or 4. Even then, a little CUV that might get as much as 34-35mpg w/ AWD is an attractive prospect for the wifes next vehicle.

Why call it a dart though? That was one classic bad ass car. Bad move imo.. but I'm sure this car will do well, its ugly as hell to me though..

Why call it a dart though? That was one classic bad ass car. Bad move imo.. but I'm sure this car will do well, its ugly as hell to me though..Millions were produced with nothing more than a slant six...the ones with 170ci /6's made 115hp gross (probably 85-95 net, ie, what it'd be rated as in today's hp). Dart's ran the whole gamut, with probably 90++% being of the grocery getter type with 6's or the bread n' butter 318 2bbl (230 gross, down to as low as 150hp net in the 70's).

Dart is a great name, even without the heritage....and I don't think that they're trying to capture the heritage in this cars case. Dart simply is what it is...a very competent, and in my opinion, attractive compact sedan (it and the focus have made the cruze appear very dated imo).

Though, I do hope they name the SRT variant "Demon SRT4"....that'd be pretty cool :)

Yea the original Dart was as much of an econobox as this is. This dart is SOOOOOOO much better IMO than the current caliber. I'll be happy to see the caliber leave so this can take its spot.

The Multiair is still very intriguing to me. Closest thing I have seen to true ECM valve control to date. LOTS of potential there.

As for the SRT-4 version. Sounds like they are strongly considering it:

All due respect to the "muscle car purists".... those days are effectively over, and using the names again is just good business. The car itself looks intriguing.

Agreed would be very cool indeed to see what comes out of this. Also this car looks 1000% better than the Caliber.

I see, I'm definitely for this. The Cruze is shit. Yes times are changing, but the affordable performance compact shouldn't change. Mopar and Ford are bringing the noise, its intriguing.

That Dart SRT-4 is going to be bad ass, they should definitely produce that.

If/when I get my Fiat 500 or Dart you're free to tune it!
