I'm looking for a Affordable Knife set, I know this is something you can spend $20 at Ikea and $5,000 if your a pro ( buddy spent like 2k )

I'm looking for a Upright Standing Wood block style, 10 to 15 piece should be plenty.

Thoughts ?

I have a henckels set from bed bath and beyond. Had it for probably 4 years now and they are still sharp. I think our set was like $200 or something but they have all kinds of different sets for different prices.

Macy's puts a nice JA Henckels set on sale for ~$170 periodically. It's a German set and wear quite well. JA Henckels is like everyone else though and have plenty of Chinese junk. Kohl's still has some Spain and German knives but most are Chinese now.

Our favorite is a knife I bought separately years ago, it's a 4" paring knife made in Spain, #31160-100.

I have a cutco knife set. Made in America. I think they are fantastic. A 7 piece set plus 6 steak knives and a block cost about $450.

Ahhh yes I forgot about them... my cousin sold them years ago and to this day says " Best knives made "

We got our Chicago Cutlery at Boston Store during the Good Will sale. We got a set in 2003 and another set in 2009. We still have both. The handles on the first set are starting to show their age, but I have to admit I sneak them into the dishwasher periodically when I'm being lazy.

I went with a Wusthof set and am very happy with them. You can get a nice set for around $300

my parents have a chicago cutlery set they got in 1973. they don't see the dishwasher, and get sharpened once every other year. when that gets done the guy rubs some oil on the handles, and they stay in very good shape. from my experience you get what you pay for in knives, and if you spent some money and take care of them you don't have to buy another set anytime soon. i have a cutco set and they are fabulous. i just don't like the plastic handles over the wood.

I like the style of rivets in the handle though. Nice and flush. The plastic handles dont really bother me on the cutco knives... They still have a nice feel in my hand.

I have Wusthof as well. Fantastic knives and I do a LOT of cooking. I have the main block set, and extra 8" Santoku knife and a set of the steak knives. All the Classic line. All in all it was around $400. I couldn't live without them.

I've got a couple of Chicago knives and I'm quite happy with them. I also have a Kitchenaid knife, but it was made in the us and is very comfy. I need to fine tune the blade more often then i'd like tho.
