I think people have this notion in their head that whatever they put in for modifications, or worse yet pay for installation, they will get back. Fact of the matter is, only cars cleanly done with well running modifications will actually see any money back. Even in those cases you will see a small fraction of the money you put in and your market will be MUCH smaller.

This mentality spans everything from the Honda Civic market up into the exotics. Here is a great example of someone with a lot of money that thinks his improvements are loved by all and worth most of what he put in. The rest of the world wants to throw up when seeing it.

I highly doubt any legitimate source did the appraisal. Besides, even if it was, you can appraise a car at whatever you want... something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. At $100,000, someone might as well just kick in the extra and buy a ZR1.
