Anyone have access to a fuel system smoke machine? Trying to track a fuel leak and it isn't from any of the lines. Trying to see if there are any small holes in a fuel tank in missing or if there are any in my filler neck. Also trying to make sure I don't have any evap leaks.

Fair enough. I still need help finding a fuel leak lol

You might be better off going somewhere and paying just for the diagnosis. For the most part only a 'real' shop will have something like that.....

I Didn't know if someone here might have access to one. I'd be willing to pay someone for their time. I've been chasing a gas leak on an s10 for awhile and I'm getting pissed. Can't find any rust holes in the tank, fuel lines aren't leaking (while running too) and I replaced the filler neck. Only thing that's left is the fuel pump o ring I suppose, but I just want to make sure before I drop the tank.

Just did a leaking evap canister on a S-10, gently regulated shop air into canister outlet with finger plugging other hole resulted in audible hiss. Pretty common fail if you have that crappy square canister.

Russ, as far as I know, I don't have an evap leak however so far my evap monitor hasnt been "ready" yet so I would imagine until I complete a gm obd II drive cycle, if there is a fault, it won't throw a code. I'm more concerned about fixing my fuel leak.

Think I could get some slight air pressure down the filler neck and run my hand around the top part of the tank to check for leaks?

Yup, however this would be MUCH easier with two people......

so you need a smoke machine to find a fluid leak?

It only leaks when I fill it up all the way at the station. After that, it drips for awhile but most of the area is still saturated so I can't pin point where it's coming from. Plus it's cold and my garage isn't heated so I'm trying to reduce the amount of time spent laying on the floor. If I can diagnose it without ripping it out and locate the problem easier, then I can go right after it. Makes sense to me.

I should read before replying :) Yes if your GM is leaking fuel when full the top o ring or rusty tank would be culprit. Smoke test wont help much given the location, will look like entire tank is leaking because you cant see the top sender cover.

It leaks slightly when driving but I think that's because fuel is splashing around and splashing out a bit

Good side of being poor: I rarely get much over a 1/2 or even 1/4 tank of fuel in my cars, no leaks :)

Exactly what I was thinking Russ, don't top the tank off 3/4 tank will get you plenty far

True. I just like when stuff works properly. I'm at 3/4 tank now and after a drive, I still see some drips. I suppose worst case scenario, I just buy a new tank.
