Since its one thing I don't see too much on here, show me your diesel beasts! I keep getting this little voice in my head saying to buy one, but my practical side says "overkill"...give me bad influence!

Its in the background. You can see why I don't have more pics of it.

I threw practical out the door... Way overkill, but I love it.

That is a NICE truck. That would be intimidating to have roll up in the rear view.

hey fly5150, I think I saw you up at LMT when you were getting those semi wheels put on...I was there getting my DR's mounted. Looks like they worked out really well, looks pretty sweet.

Yeah I love it. They ride like stock wheels, and look fantastic. I am going to do another set next spring with a slightly taller tire to fill it out more. They are crazy heavy though. I think I added over 200 lbs of rotational weight. Takes a few more pounds of boost to accelerate now, Looks sick hauling a big trailer though...

That's gotta be hell on your suspension components, what else you got done to the truck performance wise?

Super cool man, what size tires are those? Did not know they made low profile semi tires!

fly5150
12-13-2011, 06:47 PM
265-35-22 tires.... 6 of them....
the semi wheels have a double bead seal on them, you have to machine down the seal and square it off. ëxactly the same as any other wheel then.

Is that a 2wd or a 4wd truck?

50mpg > anything else :goof

My commute dictates that I am not to give the first damn about fuel economy. The difference between 10mpg and 50mpg would amount to like $10 a week for me. This is why both of my vehicles get 16-20mpg, and make 400+ ft lbs. LOL

i wish i could find a cheaper diesel car to commute with. but being that i just had a baby a month ago money is not easily stretched.

4wd works perfectly

I've looked at a couple trucks casually (lot drive by's etc)but haven't driven any yet. I'm looking to find something under $20k, but would REALLY like to go lower so I have some room for some mods and any immediate maintenance. Haven't been able to find anything really nice for the money. Where should I look?
I saw this on CL
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/2744685544.html
Seemed ok, but not sold.

I've looked on dieselbombers etc, but most of them are modded heavily.

Seems like the Ford's get you the newest truck cheapest, but the 6.0 scares me off being a "non diesel person" as of now.

cummins will keep running til the body falls off the truck.... great diesel if you want a 'classic' diesel truck.... duramax and fords perform more like gasser engines.... all diesels have good features and bad features, just depends on what you want the truck to do

fly5150

my only suggestion is to steer clear of the LB7 Duramax engine, 01-03 had it I believe. The injectors have a huge failure rate and are very expensive and a pain to replace.

BR3W CITY
12-19-2011, 11:55 AM
^Thats good to know. At my price point I teeter back and forth between a newer gasser, and the diesel. I'd really like to have the diesel power, but at for what I want to spend i might not be able to get everything I want in the truck.

lb7 is 01-04, 04.5 became lly with a vvt, the likelihood you could find an 01-04 that hasn't already had the injectors replaced is slim....

very true. check out duramaxforum.com or dieselplace.com to get more duramax info.

even the replacements go bad.. our 02 stake body just washed a cylinder due to a bad injector. $7000 repair... also have another 02 in my personal shop getting injectors AGAIN. both had the "upgraded" versions. my dads 02 has 280k mi with 3 sets. 3rd set has lasted the longest so far @ 150k mi.

diesel cars? heres my old one. ONLY vehicle i EVER regret getting rid of.. :( 92 VW GOLF GTD SPECIAL. was imported from poland. turbo intercooled diesel with a mechanical VE injection pump. best i got was in the 50mpg range.. when the pump was "maxxed" it got mid/upper 30s (if i kept my foot out of it) and i cud eat up stock fox bodies. never did take it to the track, tho i should have.. it would loose traction first through 3rd. LOL and smoked more then 90% of the 16yr olds diesel up on hwy
