Up for sale is a Dakota Digtal Dash drop in for 86-87 turbo regals. It displays Speed, RPM, Oil press, Water temp, Volts, and Fuel in %, it DOES NOT show BOOST.

what would you think if you seen this ad?

Should be a relatively easy install in theory. I'm used to not having luck with aftermarket parts fitting like OEM stuff, so I don't have a lot of confidence.

means it drops in like a quarter in a slot machine.falls down inside untill you make it fit right

Try hanging a aftermarket quarter panel sometime. After that everything is drop in.

I would expect to be able to install it with a screwdriver, snapping into using factory harnesses.

Only one thing comes to mind as drop in....and thats an air filter...now direct fit sounds like what everyone is describing

I'd say its something that sounds nice to a buyer, but also I'm sure he means its possibly a direct fit, minus everything else, lol. To me nothing is "drop in" especially around the dash. But for you it will probably be drop in, if he's assuming people looking at it are good mechanics. Either that or he just doesn't know what he's talking about.
