Thanks Yoo!
Got your text Dave, I'm at work. The wife pulled the "One or the other card" on me, meaning I have to get rid of the Thunderbird or the Lightning. As much as I want to keep the Lightning, I can't tow anything with it and it's too clean to drive in the winter or for a good work truck. :( I'd love to see it go to someone who will take care of it and enjoy. I always will wonder what it would have done on the 1/4. I plan to sell it and the Cobalt and get a newer F150 4x4 for a daily driver.

I thought with salvaged titles you couldn't get plates, how does that whole thing work out?

Salvage means an insurance company 'totaled' said vehicle. JUNKED vehicles will never see a legit title ever again.

Would a bank give you a loan on a salvage title vehicle?

Salvage requires that you have the vehicle repaired and inspected by a state inspector before it can be registered.

Salvaged vehicles can be titled, registered, and driven like any other vehicle. However, when a salvaged vehicle is state inspected and 'approved' (HUGE gray area with this) the notation 'rebuilt' will appear on the title in place of salvage......

Exactly correct. I rebuilt an S-10 a few years ago. The inspection was.. less than thorough in my opinion.

At first I was kind of bitter about it, but I have to put my hobby aside. We have 2 daily driver cars, the Thunderbird and Lightning. All of them are 2 doors. We plan on having kids soon. So having a 2 door truck that I can't tow with or wouldn't want to drive in the winter besides already having my toy Thunderbird doesn't make too much sense. We plan on selling the 3 to make room for two SUV type vehicles down the road. As much as I like the Lightning, I have to take care of the family first.

Sorry to see it for sale, but can understand your priorities and long-term thinking. I'm super glad you were able to buy your Thunderbird back though!
Good luck with the sale!

Nick - I know for a fact that Landmark Credit Union does loans on rebuilt salvage title vehicles.
And since it's registered it's actually a Rebuilt Salvage Vehicle.

not to sidetrack the thread, but did they ever make lightnings with a manual transmission, or are they all auto?

Michelle is 100% correct, however there are a few of them out there that have been converted to manual, including a real nice black one in Wisconsin that was featured in either Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords or 5.0 Magazine.....
From what I have read, the conversion is not all that hard to do.
